Thank you for your continued support. Together, we can make a difference!
In 2015, as the Captain of Vice and Narcotics, I faced a harrowing situation that forever changed my perspective. Three individuals, friends bound by circumstance, bought he**in that unknowing to them, was tainted with fentanyl. The first succumbed within minutes, right before the eyes of the other two. Yet, despite witnessing the fatal outcome, they followed suit, and within hours, all three were dead. That tragic weekend, marked by three fatal overdoses, underscored a grim reality: we could no longer arrest our way out of the opioid crisis.
At that time, our mindset—rooted in decades of law enforcement tradition—was that drug users belonged in jail. But this tragedy opened my eyes to a fundamental truth that many of us were slow to recognize: addiction is not a crime, but a disease. A disease often driven by deep-seated mental health challenges and exacerbated by the lethal potency of today’s street drugs. This was a turning point in my career, and from that moment forward, I became a vocal advocate for alternative solutions.

Allen County Democratic leaders at the Democratic National Convention Some local Democratic leaders are in Chicago for the first day of the Democratic National Convention.
My opponent was the author of Indiana's "guns for everyone" law that no doubt fuels gun violence not just here, but across the border in Chicago. I support "Safe Storage" laws to protect kids, universal background checks and a ban on military-style assault weapons.
