Hello Sherwood Community!

Our next SMPO meeting will be on Tuesday, March 7th at 5:30 PM. The meeting will be held at Kelli's house. The address is 2659 Chantel way, in Chico. Pizza, beer and salad will be provided. Please bring some money to donate to the dinner and childcare fund. Kids are welcome to attend and childcare is provided. Please respond to the email or facebook invite to RSVP so we can get the right amount of food.

This is an important meeting to attend. We have a few events left in the school year and we are in need of event coordinators! The variety show, which is on March 22nd, still does not have an event coordinator. If nobody steps up to be our coordinator, the event will have to be cancelled. And our kids love the variety show! Lets see if we can rally together to make this happen for them!

Every family is required to volunteer 50 hours a year, per the Sherwood Family Handbook. Being an event coordinator or volunteering at school events is a great way to meet that requirement! If you are new to our school and feeling nervous about coordinating an event that you have never seen before, I would love to work with you to support you through it!

I hope to see lots of faces at the meeting! Please help spread the word!

Sherwoodstock 2017

Dear families: We look forward to celebrating with you at this year’s annual Sherwoodstock, on May 13th!! For those new to the community, Sherwoodstock is a fundraiser for our schoolthat entails an afternoon of music, food and family-friendly activities. We’d like to offer sponsorship opportunities internally before reaching out to the greater Chico area. We will offer all family businesses an early opportunity, must commit by February 17th, to be donors in an attempt to prevent seeking donations from your local competitor businesses (a non-compete, if you will). This will ensure the best exposure for your business and will help us, the Sherwood Community, know where we should spend our money! Please help us reach out to the community, both business and private, to achieve our donation goals!

All donation levels are welcome! We’ve tried to create levels that can include businesses of all sizes and won’t exclude the generous family, friend or grandparent. Any interested parties or people can donate at any level, sponsorships are not just for businesses!

Suggested Sponsorship Levels

Platinum: $500 or more: Sponsor will choose one of the following areas for individual representation on day of festival: (1) Bar, (2) Food area, (3) Kids Carnival, (4) Bathrooms.
Sponsor’s logo included on all press media, prominent header/footer position on tee shirt, Recognition Board at event and 4 complimentary festival passes.

Gold: $250: Logo on festival tee shirts, Recognition Board at event and 2 complimentary festival passes
Silver: $100: Recognition Board at the event and 1 complimentary festival pass.
Bronze: $50: Recognition Board at the event

We are also seeking business donations for our silent auction. You do not have to be a sponsor to make in-kind donations, but we cannot offer the same “non-compete” guarantee for donated offerings. All gifts are greatly appreciated. One hundred percent of your donation will benefit Sherwoodstock and Sherwood Montessori.

For sponsorship opportunities, please contact Eric Hartmann at [email protected]

For silent auction donations, please contact RomieSteffenson at [email protected]

Come join us for February's SMPO Meeting tomorrow night at 5:30.

The SMPO meeting will take place at the school, in the office building. Unfortunately, due to illnesses, it is not convenient to host the meeting at one of our homes tomorrow, but we hope to have March's meeting back at Kelli's.

There are several upcoming volunteer opportunities available. Come and hear about what is happening at Sherwood Montessori.

One more school tour before the lottery on Friday!! Please have all interested parties contact the office asap to be a part of our last school tour before the lottery on Friday!! Share this with your family and friends who might be interested!! (See info about tours below)

School Tours: One More this Year!

We have one more school tour scheduled, so if you know parents who are interested in Sherwood, please have them give the office a call at 345-6600 to sign up. Our tours start at 9:00 with an informational presentation by me, our school Director, Michelle. Visitors then have a chance to see the classrooms in action by observing during the morning work period. We would love to see all your friends and neighbors who have expressed interest in Sherwood and/or the Montessori method of education, so please spread the word! Our last scheduled tour will be on Thursday, Jan. 26th. If you have someone in mind who is interested but can’t make that time, please have him or her call us and we’ll set something up that will work. Thank you!

Please plan on stopping by your child's classroom this Thursday, January 26th, from 5:30-7:00. It is a great time to become a part of your child's world as they show you around! See more details about the event below from our board chair and director. Hope to see you there!!

This Thursday, January 26 is Sherwood's Open House for all current families, where kids get to share their Montessori experience with parents and other loved ones. You won't want to miss your child's pride as they show you their favorite "works" and teach you how the magic of Montessori works. This event is also open to prospective families who are interested in checking out our public Montessori school experience.

Here's the official announcement:
Open House/Montessori Materials Night, Thursday, January 26th 5:30-7:00
Please save the date to come to your student’s Open House/Montessori Materials Night later this month. This is your opportunity to have your child show you around the classroom and introduce you to some of the compelling Montessori materials we have. Your child’s teacher will be there too, but your child will be your guide in showing you around and demonstrating materials. It is not necessary to stay for the whole time; the range of time is intended to help families with various work and after school schedules find a time that works for them. A gentle reminder that teachers will not be able to discuss your child’s progress with you during this event due to students’ confidentiality rights; please make an appointment with the teacher if you feel you need information about your child’s development. This is also a great opportunity for anyone you may know who is considering Montessori for her or his own child. If you have a friend, family member or neighbor who would be interested in attending, please share this information. We hope to see many of you Thursday, January 26th between 5:30 and 7:00 discovering more about the way the Montessori materials and classrooms support our learners.

06/01/2017

Tuesday, January 10, 6:00 p.m. is the next SMPO Meeting. The meeting will take place at Romie's house. I will be cooking for the adults and providing pizza for your children! The children will have an organized craft and an appropriate movie on the television. Please rsvp as soon as possible so that I can make sure to have enough food for everyone.
A small $ contribution would be greatly appreciated.

Report Cards Coming Home Next Friday

Teachers are preparing report cards to come home next Friday, December 9th. These reports are designed to give you information about how your student is developing in terms of the academic standards for his or her grade level, and in terms of behavior and emotional development as well. We see the report card as a communication tool between school and home, but recognize that you might have some questions about the report. Teachers can respond to questions via email, but can also schedule a conversation with you if email is not a good format. Often our teachers are busy with the whole class and it’s not possible for them to meet with a parent on a walk-in basis, so please let us know in the office if you need help getting an appointment.

Making Friends and Peace Imaginative Play Group on Wednesdays at Recess

Students in Marlo’s class have started a new activity that will be available to all students starting next Wednesday, December 7th at recess on the playground. Children from all classes are invited to join an imaginative play group that will be on the field during the regular recess time. Costumes and props that fit into backpacks may be brought from home. These must fit over regular school clothes so kids can put them on and take them off while on recess, no costumes will be worn in the classrooms or cafeteria. There will be an adult to supervise the group and make sure the play is positive and includes anyone who wants to join.

Gift of Gratitude to Teachers

To all Sherwood families: As 2016 draws to a close, it is a natural time to reflect on the first half of the school year and all that our community has accomplished since August. Sherwood teachers have always gone above and beyond for our students and school, and this year they gave even more, with the daunting task of moving the entire school and preparing classrooms for students’ arrival!

In recognition of this huge effort, a group of parents is organizing a gift of gratitude for our lead teachers. This is not a school fundraiser, but a gift from the parent community and participation is voluntary. All monies collected will be pooled and distributed evenly among the nine lead teachers, just in time for the holiday season. As it is common to give gifts to teachers during the holidays, we are hoping you will consider a cash donation to the ‘Gift of Gratitude’ for our teachers. We are suggesting a donation of $13 per student in hopes of reaching our goal of gifting $200 to each lead teacher. (Please give what you can, every penny counts!)

The parents on the fundraising committee will be available to collect cash before and after school starting Monday, November 28 - December 20th at the Winter Festival. You can find us on campus at the following locations:

Robyn DiFalco – -off & pick-up near Marlo’s and/or Tanya’s class

Heather Fox – -up near Sheng’s class by the garden boxes

Eric Hartmann – -off & pick-up near Emily’s class and at kindergarten pick-up

Nili Yudice – -up near Emily’s class
