Hazel Strange, Artist
I paint semi-abstract seascapes and landscapes of the beautiful South West. Moving eventually to Totnes felt like a home-coming.
After a BA(Hons) in Fine Art at Reading College of Art and Design, Hazel set out on a journey of artistic discovery and experimentation. Her landscapes and seascapes are of an individual style, strongly influenced by the colours and patterns in her surroundings.

A gate for walkers this time, along a hillside in Ashburton.
Walking past St Lawrence chapel on Ashburton today took me back to the memory of taking daughter there for clarinet exams!
During yesterday’s walk up a hill I came across this gate along a muddy lane. A few moments later I spotted an early daffodil clump complete with buds.
I’ve spent the afternoon at Dartington Hall with in final rehearsal for Brahms German Requiem performance at 7.30.
As a result no time to look at gates so here is one I came across on the edge of Exeter.
Yesterday I went to Hope Cove to deliver a couple of paintings to the wonderful Of course I had to walk up to Bolt Tail to look for a gate or two!
Another, rather more picturesque gate from my walk yesterday
Visiting a friend today on the edge of Exeter, I had to find a hill to walk up. Came across this gate with unpleasant looking corrugated iron. Not sure if it’s to keep people out or the horses in…
Another day, another gate! Until recently the gate and the fence was further back in the field which meant I could walk along the edge and look down to the Dart.
Out for a walk today, as usual I had to stop by gates to look at the view. Got me thinking about gates and their uses and symbolism….
During the past few months, circumstances have meant that I haven't had as much time and space to get into my studio as I'd like.
In spare moments, I've been walking, thinking and observing, which got me thinking about a project of a few years ago, when I photographed lost gloves and plotted them on a map....
