Paint with Passion
I have been painting and creating my whole life- my pre-school teacher actually told my Mom that I was going to be an artist one day. I now take it on as a full time career- and am heavily inspired by my surroundings. I seek out new destinations to research and am always looking for that little moment that seems just part of the every day- finding nooks and crannies where secrets lie and a thorough examination is in order.
I have recently moved into more abstract and representational art, learning again to create from my intuition, memory and emotion in search of that human connection and inner child, but with the complexity of the burden of adulthood. Learning to see, not to just look. Embracing how colours talk to each other, lines make movement, and shapes become objects with personality.
I have found myself arguing and talking with my paintings almost as if they are living things; I am the vessel and sometimes need to trust and respect the material rather than forcing it to perfection. Growth and decay are consistent themes through these works as I find myself drawn to the somewhat out of place or decaying/ abandoned objects and the way they fit into my world.
My work is also speckled with small projects such as mixed media and collage work, occasionally dabbling in writing and I believe having a good studio practice includes straying away from your typical projects and exploring new medias and subject matter. If anything, my career and inspiration is fluid and ever changing, so the idea wall is full of ideas...and surely things will come to fruition when they are ready to be created.
