I love their love. I remember most nights when our children were young Ray would gather them up for Bible reading time or dinner at the table as a family. Jamari was always engaged. She listened. She heard. She challenged. She felt. She connected with her dad in a special way. He loved her ferociously and she loved him unconditionally. Their love for one another is unique and special. It is like no other. I am forever grateful God allowed me to witness from a different perspective the purity and strength of a fathers love for his daughter. It has been an outward showing of His love for me. It is undeniable and unmatched!! It is a slice of heaven on earth.
If you haven’t developed that with your daughter it is not too late. I am a few years older and still look at my dad with the eyes of a little girl. 💪🏽😍🙏🏽♥️

Effective communication is difficult. We all want to share our emotions properly. We want to be heard and understood. The biggest challenge is when we are unconscious of what we are going through. We are unable to identify, describe, or even put a finger on it. You know you’re off or something is wrong. You just don’t know how to communicate it. What makes matters worse is being penalized for not knowing, expressing, or sharing what’s going on with your spouse/child/parent/friend. Let’s give GRACE to one another. Isn’t working through physical and emotional challenges enough without the expectation of perfection?

Do you create a schedule for your work flow? Do you have a personal schedule for your life? Many skills used professionally can be incorporated into your personal life. Intentionally scheduling quality time with your spouse on a consistent basis goes a long way. Putting your job, your relationship, your health on your agenda shows it has value to you.

Sometimes we differ from one another. Knowing how your spouse enjoys spending time with you gives you the opportunity to balance things out. Take turns doing quality each others way. Sweats or stilettos. Outdoors or indoors. Take out or home cooked. Movie or sporting event. It doesn’t matter how you like it just get it done!

A short coming like lack of organization, for example can lead to conflict in a marriage. If you use that short coming as an excuse to speak degradingly to your spouse you will never achieve your true desire no matter how many times you tried to speak kindly prior. Accept that you possess a talent or gift that your spouse does not have and use it for the benefit of your marital team. Lack of organization can also lead to conflict in a marriage if you use that short coming as an excuse to be dismissive and content no matter how challenging it may be for you to change or attempt growth in this area. Don’t always rely on your spouse to pick up the slack in that area because they’re naturally talented or gifted in that area. Showing your spouse your desire to improve your skills in that area makes them feel loved, heard, and appreciated.

Do you agree conflict is disagreement?

It’s the hard that makes it beautiful, valuable, and meaningful. If marriage was easy, everyone would do it, pursue it, and make it last forever.

One of my favorite things to do in March is to go see the Alvin Ailey dancers at the Auditorium Theater in Chicago. Every year they perform Revelations, my favorite number. It combines soul-stirring music, expressive movement, artistic posture, beautiful costumes, and dynamic dancing. If you haven’t caught their show, you may want to indulge post-Covid.
