NOTICE OF SPECIAL GENERAL MEMBERSHIP MEETING

Pursuant to Article II, paragraphs c and d of the By-Laws of the UP ASTRUM SCIENTIS Alumnae Association, Inc. (UPASAA) and SEC Memorandum Circular No. 6, series of 2020, a Special Membership Meeting and Election of the Board of Trustees (BOT) of the UPASAA will be held on Friday, January 19, 2024, at the University Hotel, UP Diliman, Quezon City, from 6:00 PM (PST) to 9:00 PM (PST).

Members who are unable to attend the meeting and election of the BOT in person may vote online via Google Form from January 16, 12:00 PM (PST) to January 18, 7:00 PM (PST); or submit the proxy form for in person voting until January 14, 2024, 5:00 PM (PST). They may still join the special membership meeting via GMeet (https://meet.google.com/ory-zqis-scb).

Ang epektibong modernisasyon ay may maayos na plano, dumaan sa masusing proseso at hindi dapat minamadali.

The government's Public Utility Vehicle Modernization Program (PUVMP) aims to improve the quality of public transportation and reduce air pollution in the country. However, behind the facade of this program is a financial burden that is being inhumanely imposed on jeepney operators, threatening their livelihood.

To achieve genuine progress, the modernization program must empower jeepney drivers through policies prioritizing operators' well-being. It should embrace inclusivity and a driver-centric vision, ensuring the transition to modernized vehicles enhances the transportation system and safeguards the livelihoods of those behind the steering wheel. These individuals play a pivotal role in providing essential services to the public.

In line with the ongoing jeepney strike, the UP SCINTILLA JURIS Fraternity and ASTRUM SCIENTIS Sorority stand in solidarity with the PUJ drivers against the inhumane jeepney modernization program. We call on the government and the LTFRB to hear the voices of the masses, to halt the jeepney phaseout, and to revoke its December 31st deadline.

Ang isang tunay na modernisasyon ay may bisyon na paunlarin at isaayos ang sistema ng transportasyon, hindi lang pagpapaganda, kundi isinusulong din nito ang layunin na tulungan ang mga tao na makasabay sa progreso.

ASTRUM SCIENTIS Sorority stand against Israel’s Systemic Oppression of the Palestinian People!

The deliberate bombing of Israel over houses, schools, churches, hospitals, refugee camps, and other institutions that house Palestinians no longer shows that this is a war between Israel and Hamas. It was never a war with Hamas. With no care for civilians, adults and children alike, this can no longer be an act of self defense. WE CONDEMN ISRAEL FOR THEIR CRIMES AND THIS MASSACRE.

We denounce the Marcos Administration for staying neutral as the oppression of Israel Palestinians unfold.

We denounce the media for trying to downplay Israel's crime by naming it as the Israel-Hamas conflict. The media should not play a role in covering the eyes of the public on what is exactly happening within Palestine.

Neutrality should never be an option to the unhumanitarian actions of Israel. We urge the public to voice out and shout calls for a ceasefire. You can do something. We can do something.

The impending phaseout of PUVs, specifically jeepneys, by June 30 brought about by the PUV Modernization Program of the Government continues to put jeepney drivers and operators at the risk of losing their livelihoods.

ASTRUM SCIENTIS Sorority and SCINTILLA JURIS Fraternity stand by its belief that progress and modernization should be inclusive. The cost of the new “modernized” jeepneys, even with the provided subsidy, cannot be shouldered alone by our operators and drivers. Many will be forced to lose their livelihood bringing a transport crisis to all sectors and affect their families the most. Such modernization brings nothing but greenwashing.

ASTRUM SCIENTIS SORORITY - Diliman Chapter CALLS FOR A GENUINE PUV MODERNIZATION THAT IS BOTH EMPIRICAL AND INCLUSIVE. We demand the government to discuss with the stakeholders of this program to prioritize the welfare of our jeepney drivers and operators whose livelihoods are threatened.

Ngayon araw, iginugunita natin ang ika-37 anibersaryo ng EDSA People Power Revolution. Sa pagunitang ito, ating binibigyang pugay ang taong bayan na nagkaisa upang ibalik ang demokrasya ng bansa.

Ipanikita ng EDSA People Power Revolution sa mundo ang matapang na paninindigan ng sambayanang Pilipino para makamit ang kalayaan at kapayapaan mula sa marahas, walang dangal, at diktador na lider na si Marcos Sr. Ang rebolusyon na ito ang nagbigay daan upang manumbalik ang demokrasyang ninakaw sa sambayanang Pilipino.

Bukod sa demokratikong institusyon na naibalik dahil sa pagkakaisa ng taong bayan, nagsimulang magkaroon ng pagbabago sa bansa--mga repormang panlipunan, pampulika, at pang-ekonomiya.

Habang inaalala natin ang napakahalagang bahaging ito ng kasaysayan, patuloy tayong manindigan sa opresyong hanggang ngayon ay nararamdaman parin ng ating mga kababayan.

Sa sapilitang pambubulag, tayo ay manatiling mulat. Sa sapilitang pagpapatahimik, lakasan lalo ang pagsigaw. At sa sapiliting pambibingi, talasan lalo ang pandinig.
