Usually nonprofits aren't in the habit of asking its supporters to donate to other nonprofits, but one of our partners needs our help.
Our friends at Class Action are in jeopardy of having to cease operations this fall unless they raise $50K by the end of this month. Class Action does a lot of good work on FGLI student issues as part of their larger mission to eradicate classism & extreme poverty.
Please consider donating to Class Action before June 30th to help them continue their great work!

If you were to describe FGLI students in one word, what would it be?
Check out how Vanderbilt First VU answered that question during their GEN Week celebration!
Here are some more highlights of GEN Week celebrations! Check out how UMass First-Generation Low-Income Partnership celebrated GEN Week on their campus!
As we continue sharing highlights of GEN Week celebrations, check out how Furman FGSA, the *student organization of the year at Furman University*, celebrated GEN Week on their campus!
In April, we brought back GEN Week for the first time in three years. We said during GEN Week that we'd be sharing photos of the different GEN Week celebrations that happened through the week, but we had some delays in getting the photos from GEN Week participants. Once we got the photos together, we decided that we also wanted to give graduation season the space it deserves. (Congratulations to all the FGLI students that graduated this spring!)
Now that graduation season has passed, we wanted to be sure that we shared the GEN Week celebrations of our participating chapters. So throughout this week and next week, we will share the highlights of all the GEN Week celebrations that happened during GEN Week in April. We are going to start with First-Generation Student Association; check out how they celebrated GEN Week!
One sign that things are getting back to normal? The return of 1vyG.
The 1vyG Conference is the largest FGLI student conference in the country. Our friends at EdMobilizer are currently accepting applications to host the next 1vyG Conference, which will be held in the fall of 2022. Check out the link below for more information and to apply to host 1vyG; the deadline to apply is Monday, April 25th at 11:59 PM ET!

We hope you will join us on June 18th!
Today marks the first day of GEN Week! GEN Week is an international day of awareness & visibility of the FGLI identity.
Our theme this year is "Reclaming Our Identity." We are reclaiming our identity from administrators & institutions that try to co-opt our efforts to advocate for ourselves as FGLI students for the benefit of their public image, that engage in performative allyship by "celebrating" us when it's convenient for them but mistreat us when it's not, and that use FGLI students to make themselves look better so that they can market themselves as a friendly institution for FGLI students. National First-Gen Day, which has caught on in recent years, was an idea that was stolen from us, a student-centered organization, by 2 administrator-centered organizations. So we are reclaiming our identity. We are reclaiming the mantle of what it means to be FGLI and to have pride in being FGLI.
Along with the GEN Week theme, there is also a GEN Week hashtag for this week. You will see the GEN Week hashtag in all of our social media posts for GEN Week as well as the posts of all of the schools participating in GEN Week. This year's GEN Week hashtag is . This hashtag refers to a number of things. It can refer to the fact that GEN Week came before National First-Gen Day. It can refer to the fact that students showed pride in their FGLI identity before institutions realized that celebrating FGLI students was good for their public image. It can refer to FGLI students getting to & through college before anyone else in their family. It can refer to the fact that FGLI students were the ones that first focused on the struggles that they faced before institutions paid lip service to those struggles.
Throughout this week, various school all over the country & the world will be having GEN Week celebrations on their respective campuses. Stay tuned to our social media to see how FGLI students are reclaiming their identity!
Coming 4/18/2022……
HUGE shoutout to Furman FGSA for being named Student Organization of the Year on their campus! In winning this award, Furman FGSA is a prime example of what happens when students are driving the conversation around FGLI student advocacy and support, a core tenet of FLIP National's mission. It also demonstrates how being a FLIP National chapter can help an FGLI student organization be as effective as possible in making change on their campus. This is what effective STUDENT advocacy looks like.

It’s the twelfth and final day of our ! You’ve heard about so many of FLIP National’s initiatives over the past two weeks, and we wanted to finish up with a big one: national conferences. FLIP National doesn’t just provide tons of direct support to FGLI student-run organizations nationwide; we’re an influencer and a key support to stakeholders across the country. We have a significant presence at every national FGLI student conference: the 1vyG Conference put on by EdMobilizer, the Stanford FLI Conference, the Duke LIFE Conference, the AL1GN Conference, or most recently, the Class Action First-Gen Summit. Our presence at these conferences allow us to connect with FGLI students and shape attendees’ perspectives on what FGLI student support should look like. Our Executive Director, Chris Sinclair, has presented at every one of these conferences and has been able to have a major influence on how this work is done all around the country. Check out what attendees of FLIP National workshops have to say about how attending FLIP National workshops at conferences influenced them.
We’ve given you 12 big reasons to donate to FLIP National’s work. But that’s just the beginning. We hope you join us on our journey to make sure that FGLI student voices are heard, respected, and represented on all kinds of campuses. We are immensely grateful to all of our donors & supporters; we couldn’t possibly do any of this work without you! So if you’re searching for an organization where your dollars will make a real difference, look no further than FLIP National. Thanks so much for all of your support!

On the eleventh day of our , we spotlight another FLIP National chapter, UF First Generation Organization! Check out what their president, Lara Vargas Alvarez, has to say about how FLIP National has made a difference for them!
FGO is a great example of one of the benefits of becoming a FLIP National chapter: institutions take our chapters more seriously than they otherwise would because they are affiliated with our organization. In the time we’ve been working with FGO, they have been able to get much more institutional support and be taken much more seriously than when they first started out.
During this campaign, we have spotlighted just a few of our nearly 30 chapters across the country. All of our FLIP National chapters are doing absolutely amazing work, and we here at FLIP National are so proud of each and every one of them. Your continued support of our organization will help us to continue providing support to our FLIP National chapters so that they all can make similar progress and help even more FGLI students on their campuses.

On the tenth day of our , we return to one of our favorite things to do: spotlight our wonderful FLIP National chapters! Today we spotlight FLIP at Texas State! TXST FLIP was so excited to become a FLIP National chapter that they decided to celebrate for an entire week! Check out what TXST FLIP’s president, Lin Tran, has to say about how FLIP National has transformed their organization.
By supporting our organization today, you will be helping FLIP National to continue supporting student leaders like Lin and chapters like TXST FLIP so that they can continue to make a difference for FGLI students on their campuses.

On the ninth day of our , we showcase another newly launched initiative, COFLAN! The Collaborative of First-Generation Low-Income Alumni Networks is a group of FGLI alumni networks across the country that convene to establish and share best practices for alumni assisting FGLI students with the challenges they face in school and post-graduation. Check out what COFLAN’s co-founder, Anh LyJordan, has to say about why she chose to team up with FLIP National to create COFLAN.
Being FGLI doesn’t end at graduation. COFLAN helps both FGLI students and FGLI graduates build their social capital so that they have all the support they need in order to accomplish their post-graduation goals. COFLAN also serves as a resource for those interested in creating similar alumni networks at their alma maters. Thanks to the community we’ve built at FLIP National, in addition to our 29 chapters, we also have 11 FGLI alumni networks represented in COFLAN!
With your support, we can continue to provide resources to FGLI students and alumni and help FGLI students and graduates bridge the gap from college to career and beyond. Please donate to FLIP National today!

FGLI students want to be part of our FLIP National family because they recognize that we can help them to achieve their goals as an organization. There is no stronger evidence of FLIP National’s impact than the constant growth of our chapter list. Your support today will help FLIP National provide even more resources to chapters like AFGU so that they can continue to advocate for FGLI students on their campuses.

On the seventh day of our , we are celebrating our popular FLIP National Laptop Lending Library! Laptops are one of the big “hidden costs” of college in the US; you know, those costs that aren’t included in tuition/room/board but can make a huge difference in your quality of life on campus. FGLI students can’t always afford access to reliable computing equipment. This initiative meets that need by providing our chapters with laptops that can be lent out to FGLI students on a long-term basis. Thanks to our partner Revivn and their donation of laptops, the Lending Library has been launched at chapters on multiple campuses thus far, most successfully by Lehigh F1RST. Infact, Lehigh’s Laptop Lending Library was so successful that Lehigh University decided to match the initial donation, and they have designed a similar initiative at Lehigh for graphing calculators.
Lehigh is not the only school that has benefitted from this program; check out how this initiative has impacted an FGLI student from Cornell.
Your continued support of FLIP National will help us grow our Laptop Lending Library by expanding our partnerships and adding more laptops so that we can support FGLI students at all of our chapters across the country. Please donate to FLIP National today to lend a hand–and we’ll make sure to lend a laptop!

On the sixth day of our , we’re excited to showcase another FLIP National chapter, First-Generation Student Association! FGSA at UNC has blossomed since becoming a chapter, culminating in the first ever First-Gen Graduation ceremony at UNC Chapel Hill last spring and securing institutional funding for their organization for the first time in 3 years. Listen to what FGSA’s president, Lissie Rivera Fernández, has to say about how FLIP National has transformed their organization.
FLIP National chapters like FGSA at UNC do an incredible amount of work to make life better for FGLI students on their campuses, and we love to support these organizations in their efforts. Donate to FLIP National today to continue helping FLIP National support and provide resources for chapters such as FGSA at UNC!
