The Quietus | Reviews | Regan Bowering A strange loop of sound and place engulf the listener in the latest release from Bezirk Tapes
Out now, the brilliant debut album from London-based percussionist and sound artist Regan Bowering. On 'Solos for _ _ _ _ spaces', she uses drums and amplifier feedback to make intricate tapestries of sound. As she explains: “I wanted to explore ways to use the drums that extended beyond typical rhythmic gestures or the need to hit the drums to generate sound,. To create a continuous texture which doesn’t need continuous input."
Tapes are shipping now.
This Friday (24th) we're delighted to be heading to the wonderful Hundred Years Gallery to celebrate the releases of Regan Bowering's 'Solos for _ _ _ _ spaces'. We'll have copies of the tape available, and the live sets are all going to be brilliant!!!
"On Bespoke he [Omphalopticon] has collaged such seemingly annoying sounds into a wryly humorous whirlwind that finds creative possibilities in the mundane. Juxtaposed against these moments are frankly bizarre intrusions, like daydreams interrupting daily life." Wonderfully insightful review from Matthew Blackwell on Omphalopticon's Bespoke in the latest Field Recordings column at Bandcamp Daily.

“I wanted to impose my own day-to-day surroundings onto the process, and vice-versa..." Omphalopticon is the solo recording project of London-based improvisor Andrew Ciccone. On new tape Bespoke, out this Friday, he spins the mundane into a gloriously bamboozling collage.

Happy Bandcamp Friday! To mark this momentous day, we're delighted to unveil another track from Omphalopticon's forthcoming tape, Bespoke. 'Skunktronic' is a sideways collage of conversations and field recordings recorded with a mic in a knapsack during one of London's mighty SKRONK: Live experimental music and performance events. If you ever wondered what free-improvisors talk about when they're not playing music, this gives you some of the answer...

'A-CHOO!!!' NEW TAPE ANNOUNCEMENT! Anyone who's seen Omphalopticon (aka Andrew Ciccone) play live will know he's a performer like no other. His new tape, coming soon on Bezirk, carries that same freewheeling, any thing's an instrument energy. From sneezes as lead vocals to drill symphonies. Collages of banter from outside the improv night to street recordings of Guatemala. Bespoke is a defiantly uncategorisable album, sequenced and collaged together in a way no one else would think possible, let alone try. Hear a preview of second track, 'The Sniffle-Sneeze', now.

Absolute head spinner of a release here from our heroes Oishi, in which they hack (in every possible sense of the word) DEKUNOBO's recent album into a burbling ecosystem of spooky sound. Remix as bizarre audio alchemy... Check it out on the Hundred Years Gallery label here:

We're super excited to announce our next tape, from the astounding duo Oishi. On their debut album, 'once upon a time there was a mountain', Zheng Hao and Ren Shang use warped tape loops, field recordings and digital manipulation to explore how everyday sounds can carry unexpected paths of expression and meaning. Evoking fictional vocabularies and car radios via motorbike rides down imagined mountains.
