One hundred years ago today, Arthel “Doc” Watson was born in Deep Gap, NC. We knew Doc through our friend David Holt, but even before that, we photographed him for his Sugar Hill label album covers. This shot was for the back of the “Midnight Train” album (1986), the last one recorded with his son, Merle, who died in a tractor accident not long before this shoot.
