STEM Lecture: The Impact of Racialized Bias on Academic Success in STEM
April 7, 2022 - 12:30 pm (EDT)- Hybrid - In person and on Zoom
228 Student Union
Dr. Ebony O. McGee
Associate Professor of Diversity and STEM education
Peabody College of Education, Vanderbilt University
Dr. Ebony McGee investigates what it means to be racially marginalized in the context of learning and achieving in STEM higher education and in the STEM professions. She examines racialized experiences and racial stereotypes that adversely affect the education and career trajectories of underrepresented groups of color. This involves exploring the social, material, and health costs of academic achievement and problematizing traditional forms of success in higher education. Dr. McGee investigates how marginalization undercuts success in STEM through psychological stress, interrupted STEM career trajectories, impostor phenomenon, and other debilitating race-related trauma for Black, Indigenous, and Latinx doctoral students.

Sharing with WISC from SUNY Workplace -- Women in IT Series x WIT
The SUNY CPD, together with SUNY WIT (Women in Technology), will be hosting a webinar series to provide space for women and their allies in traditional IT (Information Technology) to learn from one another and share personal narratives, challenges, and successes. The SUNY WIT mission is to empower, support, and retain a more gender diverse IT related workforce and student population for SUNY.
SUNY WIT is an inclusive and diverse organization working to connect people identifying as women and their allies in libraries and other SUNY functional offices with strong technology roles (such as libraries, admissions, institutional research, impact analysts, student success functions, instructional design, and campus facilities). The goal of the series is to unite this community and identify professional development needs that will launch future activity.
We are asking that you take 1 minute to complete the survey found at the link below; your response will help us identify areas of immediate relevance to women serving in a campus IT role.
