Odyssey Story Time!

"In 2011, I held a spontaneous workshop for our Teams in Tennessee. At the workshop, I was talking to a new division 1 team about how their school district would provide a school bus to ride to the tournament, a hotel room with free hot breakfast, and a buffet lunch at the university's cafeteria. One team member became so excited by those things that he was jumping up and down in pure joy! It hit me like a ton of bricks that these are all things I would have taken for granted as a child.

In that moment, I realized that Odyssey was bigger than I even knew. Yes, the benefits in working with a team and using creativity are imaginable. But through Odyssey, this team member was getting things he did not have access to on a daily basis. Not only did he get to go the state tournament in Cookeville, but he advanced with his team to World Finals in Maryland. There he was able to ride the Metro, go into DC, and meet a buddy team from Singapore. After that day, I realized that for many of our Tennessee team members, World Finals was the first and maybe only time they had ever left the state or even their small town.

Odyssey has given me more than I could ever give back, but that small moment changed my life and made me realize the true power of Odyssey of the Mind is much more than just the competition."

Let’s Get this party started!!

Team Delaware is headed to Awards. Will we be Lucky Ducks?!

Waiting for Closing Ceremonies and Awards to start. Team Delaware got all their ducks in a row literally to take the Team Delaware Odyssey of the Mind Official photo which is honestly my favorite part of the week. Seeing everyone together in their Team Delaware gear so excited is just amazing!!

Hey Team Delaware! A few things…
-Along with wearing the yellow shirts, don’t forget your hats, noise makers and light up duckies when you come for the team photo and Closing Ceremonies. And tickets!
-Kiddos will go outside right from Awards to the party areas, so they should have anything they want to trade on them or in their CLEAR SWAG BAGS!!
-Finally, as a Shadow this year, I haven’t been out and about to take Team Delaware photos. Would you please pick a couple from each of your teams experiences here and email them direct to me (not reply all) so that I can share them out on Facebook. Thanks so much!!

A bittersweet time at World Finals tonight as we said “Congratulations” to some of our Senior DEOotMers and “Goodbye” to our founder Dr. Sam. We laughed and we cried and were reminded how much we have to be thankful for due to his creativity and ingenuity.

Team Delaware Official Photo
Weather permitting we will be taking the Team Delaware official photo on Friday before Closing Ceremonies/Awards. Please be on the staircase at the Stephens Auditorium by 6. It is outside on the side facing the Hilton coliseum. We will take the picture at 615 and then move to closing ceremonies. Please wear your yellow shirts.

Team Delaware don't foget to come out and support our senior OMERs at the graduation ceremony. Following the ceremony will be the memorial for Dr Sam

Team Delaware stop by Spontaneous!!

OMERs from around the world experienced a scary situation yesterday here at Iowa State University. Thankfully we were all able to be moved to safe spaces by the amazing ISU staff throughout the campus and only had horrible wind and rain and storms but unfortunately not everyone was so lucky. To put into perspective, we are in Ames. Most of the areas listed in the article are an hour or so from us but Nevada where some of the pictures are from is only a few minutes away.

Just a little bit of a minor setback today everyone had to shelter in place because of tornadoes in the area and opening ceremonies got pushed back an hour, but everyone had a great time and a great opening ceremonies and we’re ready to get started tomorrow
