I was recently contacted by NST Law Firm, partnering on awareness of PTSD and its association to car accidents. We often associate PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder) with acts of war.
The truth is that PTSD is associated with all types traumatic events. One more frequent and often unconsidered it car accidents. Affecting a large portion of the general population. Car accidents can leave not only debilitating mental injuries but fear as well ,leading to post-traumatic stress disorder.
Studies have shown that nearly half of all car accident victims experience PTSD. Click the link below to learn more.

โMany are not aware of the connection between PTSD and car accidents, so it is something we wanted to shed some more light on. Not surprisingly, a car accident can be traumatizing for any person involved. It can make getting back behind the wheel seem impossible. โ
๐๏ธThe Benefits of Mindfulness for Mental Health ๐๏ธ
Mindfulness has become a buzzword in recent years, but what exactly is it and how can it benefit mental health? In this blog post, we'll explore the concept of mindfulness and its impact on mental health, including the benefits of mindfulness for reducing stress, improving focus, and promoting overall well-being.
At its core, mindfulness is the practice of being fully present and aware in the moment, without judgment or distraction. This can involve practices like meditation, deep breathing, or simply paying attention to the sensations of the body and environment.
By cultivating a mindful mindset, we can learn to better regulate our emotions and thoughts, which can contribute to improved mental health. ๐ง๐ผโโ๏ธ
Research has shown that mindfulness can be an effective tool for reducing symptoms of anxiety, depression, and other mental health conditions. It can also improve physical health outcomes like blood pressure โฅ๏ธ and immune function .
By incorporating mindfulness practices into our daily routines, we can improve our mental and physical well-being and enjoy a more fulfilling life. ๐

Happy Monday!
Donโt forget to put yourself first today.
The most wonderful time of the year is not so wonderful when you are facing addiction or mental health ailments. But like the lights for the tree the two are perfectly paired.
Often this time of year we see an increase in drunk driving, overdoses reach year-end highs with addiction escalating and mental health plummeting.
Use December for you.

By creating the illusion of a short window of opportunity shoppers feel a compulsion to make the purchases, excusing any financial strain with the idea that the opportunity is limited.

โช๏ธTry to make purchases throughout the year. Sales are going on all year long- take advantage of the ability to dabble in each over the course of year.
โช๏ธSaving money can be hard- not all gifts need a high price tag. Get crafty on and DYI some gifts.
โช๏ธWe often feel the urge to flood our loved ones with gifts when, in reality, they only use or play with one or two of them. Be modest- if it does serve a purpose- you do not need it.
โช๏ธIf you feel that you purchased something without thinking it through โ return it! Thatโs the greatest part. You do not have to keep it. Allow yourself forgiveness and accept that when you buy something you are not permanently glued to it-you can change your mind (most of the time).
Try to stay on top of your self-care during the holidays. It is one the most stressful times of the year and often sets the tone for the new year coming.
Racial Microaggressions.
Often overlooked by the aggressor they are references that are demeaning to racial/ ethnic minorities, people of color. Racial microaggression may not always be intentional and the aggressor can be oblivious to the hostility behind their behavior, whether physical or verbal. There are three types of microaggressions: microassault, microinsult, and microinvalidation. According to the American Psychologist, Vol 62(4), pp.271-286, โAlmost all in*******al encounters are prone to microaggressionsโ.
On a national level Florida rank in the 46th percentile for access to mental health care and this number increases further down the list when compared to access for inmates. Florida has more than 18,000 inmates that should be provided with access to mental health care but only about 1,000 inmates are receiving treatment at any given time.......

๐บ๐ธThank you for bravely doing what you were called to do so we can safely do what we're free to do. Our debt can never be re-paid ๐บ๐ธ
While we celebrate and honor our American Veterans- Veterans Day reminds us to not only extent the gratitude that we should be offering daily but to reach out and check-in, also known as National Warrior Call Day ๐ As John F. Kennedy said, "As we express our gratitude, we must never forget that the highest appreciation is not to utter words, but to live by them."
The era may be different, the battle and weapons may have changed, the uniforms no longer the same but the war they fight inside them is one that has never changed. it is the war that we cannot see that is often the most damaging.
Veterans are subjected many conditions that carry the highest rates of:
1. Su***de- 1 in every 7 U.S. su***de.
2. PTSD- 15x higher than civilians.
3. Major Depressive Disorder- more than 10% of Veterans.
4. TBI (Traumatic Brain Injury)- more than 20% of Veterans. This may only be seen in mild symptom's such as headaches, irritability and mood swings but can increase with age. More often definable by age 70-80.
๐To support your honor to our Veterans on this Day- Don't just thank a Veteran reach out- call and check-in with the local Veterans in your community!
๐จIf a veteran tells you they are suicidal, take it seriously. Talk to them, encourage them and ask them to seek help from a mental health professional. Share the Veterans Crisis Line (1-800-273-8255) with them. It is available 24/7.๐จ
Pros and Cons of cannabis use ๐ How โwhenโ starting may/ have affected you!
There is supporting science to the benefits of cannabis and there is science to the harmful effects of cannabis use in adolescent/ young adulthood.
๐ฎโโ๏ธYes, there is actually a reason to D.A.R.E. and it adds up to be more favorable than you may have considered.
Research supports the evidence that cannabis use in teen/ young adults/adolescences led to higher rates of psychiatric disorders LATER in life. Major depression, anxiety and bi-polar disorders are linked to cannabis use during this time frame. Why? During this stage of development, the ability to regulate emotion is low and lacking in capacity to develop relationship skills- an important social skill โผ๏ธ
That aside, teen cannabis uses are more than 2x likely to experience maladaptive behavioral issues including aggression, arrest, difficulty concentrating, suicidal ideation amongst several behavioral disorders. ๐ซค
If you are going to useโฆ at least wait until later adulthood (defined as mid-twenties +).
๐จAre you or someone you know struggling with addiction- Need to speak with someone know?

We hear about diet and healthy eating habits all the time. Our present generations have more access to the importance of nutrients and their importance. However, most often the target is informative to physical fitness benefits. But how does food affect our mental health?
๐Letโs talk fried foodsโฆ fried foods were found in a one study to be highly related to anxiety and depression.
Why? Because their impact on our lipid metabolism with one of the containments, acrylamide, creating a disturbance of neuroinflammation.
Sounds unpleasant right? But not enough to give up the French fries, fried chicken, and donuts. ๐๐ฉ
Consider how neuroinflammation affects our mental health. Acrylamide directly induces anxiety, and depression leading to an increase of maladaptive behaviors to oxidate our increased stress from the disordered lipid metabolismโฆ. Sound more importantโ๏ธ
This does not mean jump to a complete changeโฆ. I love fried foods but think moderation when considering our fried intakes.

I love implementing mindfulness groups from singular sessions. The results are 86-95% more effective when itโs normalized.
The 1 question that is always asked โฆ how can I use mindfulness in my daily life โ๏ธ
Great question- not everyday is going to be sunshine โ๏ธ and positivity ๐ง๐ผ. We have to take the good with the bad and adjust for โ๏ธ
Here are a few things that you can do daily to support a mindful mentality:
1๏ธโฃ - Slow down. Set the coffee down- Take a few slow deep breaths.
2๏ธโฃ - Pay attention to what you are telling yourself. Is it supportive of your goals? Positive?
3๏ธโฃ - Change the content you are offering your ๐ง . Walk away for a few moments.
Write it down โ๐ผ. Allowing the negativity to overwhelm you will drown your brains ability to process incoming thoughts ๐ญ.
โ ๏ธArtificial Intelligence - Does its positives out way the negatives?โ ๏ธ
๐One recent study found that it does not. Some of the highest impacts found to be associated with AI are higher levels of substance useโฆ
Generating loneliness, isolation, and insomnia; developers reported increased use in alcohol and less interactions with co-workers, friends, and family. ๐ฅ๐ต
๐ซHumans are social creatures; we instinctively crave and need interaction with others to progress. AI can work us backwards leaving destructive effects with spillover into our respective lives. Spending more time developing social robot relationships has created an โasocial systemโ creating higher levels of social disconnect in both personal and work life.
๐ฌWhat are the benefits of AI? Are they really worth the maladaptive behaviors and are attached?
