Becoming a poster child of mental health was never my intention. My journey is and has always been a love journey. In order for me to listen and accept other stories I still have to cleanse my own palate and search my own soul.

True Story:

At a high point in my life I drove to Atlanta to surprise my (then) girlfriend for her birthday. I got a room at the Westin hotel and was upgraded to a specialty room on a specialty floor that needed a special key to get into. I got in Atlanta early and when I went to surprise my girlfriend I saw what I wasn’t supposed to see. It rocked me to my core. My belief system in EVERYTHING and especially love was lost. Two bottles in and drowning myself in tears lead me to standing on the 25th floor balcony twittering back and forth.

Love almost killed me and love also saved me.

Find out why I choose to spread the love that saved me back into the universe in this rare in-depth interview on the show!

Rich class
Middle class
Poor class

The rich class gave the the middle class a bone with a piece of meat on it. Rich class thinking that the middle class was going to eat the meat and come back to ask for more.

The middle class went home and soaked the bone and meat and boiled a pot of beans. He put the bone and meat in the beans and let it cook slowly overnight.

The middle class invited the poor class to eat and they came in droves. They ate and were merry.

The rich man became jealous of the middle man’s success and vowed to never give the middle class another bone with meat on it.

The poor saw all that the middle class man had and instantly believed that the middle class man was the rich class and in turn became jealous as well.

The poor class sought out to do harm and the rich class vowed to never give again.

The middle class eventually separated themselves from all classes.

We are here for God’s purpose! There is no class.

All we have is humanity and everyday we need more and more!

Last night I was honored to raise a glass in honor of Carol Piersol’s memory and her incredible legacy at the unveiling of the
Carol Piersol Stage.

Piersol was founding artistic director of both Firehouse and 5th Wall and was a cornerstone of Richmond theater. With her
adventurous, can-do, refuse-to-take-no-for-an-answer spirit; she turned a defunct, decommissioned firehouse into one of the most happening spots for the performing arts in the community.

A fixture of the local theater scene for more than three decades, Carol produced and directed dozens of shows and racked up numerous awards.

Firehouse theatre was co-founded in 1993 with Bill Gordon, Anna Senechal Johnson and longtime Richmond Magazine staff writer Harry Kollatz Jr.

I’m looking forward to many years of ground breaking theatre under the tenure of Nathaniel Shaw and I’m looking forward to seeing you in the audience where I will be!!!!

I have this reoccurring dream. I’m Batman and I scale the sides of the building to the top and I get there and the evil genius is in the sky and he says “Either save the girl or save the world”.

For the longest time I’ve always saved the girl and all the energy and emotions that I had would go into relationships and end up horribly because I didn’t know who I was. I would lose myself because of not knowing knowledge of self.

The last time; after a devastating breakup, I had this dream and I got to the top and when the evil genius said “Either save the girl or save the world”; I didn’t have a girl to save and I chose to save the world and all the energy that I was putting into relationships I put into the world and it has worked out tremendously placing me in the worldly leadership position that I’m in today.

I stand strong in my conviction of the man that I am today but some days I miss the old Raymond. The Raymond that could love with with no blinders or filters. The Raymond that could show his sensitive side. The Raymond that could be vulnerable because love isn’t tainted and shouldn’t be tainted. The Raymond that believes in love simply because it’s love.

Love is supposed to be blind. Love is supposed to be trusting in faith. Love is loving with no inhibitions. Love is being able to express and open oneself to another human being and being able to make a connection with another human being.

I can only hope and pray that one day that that Raymond is allowed to re-surface and restore his faith in love.

Until that love returns I promise to put all my energy into the world and all those emotions that were rejected may have hardened me but it’s only hardened to protect the sensitive nature that’s naturally in me.

Until then…I’ll save the world and let the girl save herself. If she truly is my match then she will notice the super heroine within herself when she gets to the top of the building.

No worries super-woman! I’ll be patiently waiting for you…saving the world! 🌎

Road to Oprah excerpt:

“After battling depression and suicidal tendencies; December 31st 2010; I stepped out on faith quitting my 3 jobs and left my home in Richmond Virginia to travel to Chicago on a vision shown to me to meet Oprah Winfrey. The 1st stop I made was Pittsburgh Pennsylvania.

At 11:59 they began the countdown and their ball began to drop. For some reason I didn’t want to see it. I turned to walk away and there was a glass/window partition walkway that stretched between two buildings and that people could walk between buildings. As the countdown got to 3,2,1; the fireworks went off behind me. I was the ONLY person facing the partition and was watching the fireworks go off while everyone else was directly watching it.

That was a sign for me. That was MY burning bush. I instantly thought of the song ‘Fireworks’ by Drake.

I saw the fame in my eyes and what was predestined for me. Even though I didn’t know what direction I was taking; all I knew was that I was being pulled and I was tired of resisting!”

This photo reminds me of my journey! Everyday I am one step closer! The vision is as clear as the day it was shown to me! I’m much more stronger! I am God’s chosen one! There is no stopping, there is no resisting! I am walking full force in the light of the Almighty Himself!

Child prodigy at three years old. Thank you for my birthday celebration

27/04/2023

Birthday shenanigans:

If you haven’t had a chance to visit the iconic
Nuyorican Poets Cafe in New York’s lower east side then I advise that you should. As you walk in; check out the murals on the exterior walls done by veteran artist 👨‍🎨 “Chico”.

I was honored for the special birthday invite to watch Rome Neal and his famous Banana Puddin’ Jazz Band with legendary NY jazz masters Willie Martinez, Gene Ghee, Andre Chez Lewis and Lonnie Plaxico.

I was elated when Rome Neal invited me on stage to perform a poem and what took the cake was watching this young child prodigy at the age of 5 rattle on the piano.
