The Replication and Reconnection Study confirms the original, powerful outcomes: that 4‑H helps youth thrive now and into adulthood. Here's the top line:
Compared to their peers, 4‑H participants are:
4X more likely to make a positive contribution to their communities.
2X more likely to participate in out‑of‑school‑time science programs
2X more likely to make healthier choices

Do you have a 4-H chicken project? UC Agriculture & Natural Resources has an app for you! The Poultry Lab at the UC Davis School of Veterinary Medicine will pay poultry owners ages 13 and up to participate in a two-week study with a follow-up survey three months later. The UC Community Chicken app will be available to the public after the study is complete. "We value the thoughts and experiences of people who are raising poultry," said Myrna Cadena, Ph.D. student in Maurice Pitesky’s lab. "Their input will be valuable in shaping the way we extend information about poultry health."

The UC Community Chicken app contains six educational modules with short videos that cover health assessment, nutrition, vaccination, biosecurity, bird behavior and husbandry. It also features chat and feedback buttons so participants can communicate with the UC experts and other poultry owners.

To register to participate in the study, go to https://bit.ly/UCchickenapp. For more information about the study, contact Maurice Pitesky at [email protected].
