Spain Park, Oak Mountain State Park host Hartford Nationals for athletes with disabilities - Shelby County Reporter National competition was brought back to Hoover for another year as the Hartford Nationals hosted numerous competitions from July 12-18.

Sam Bosco was six years old when she first got on a bike, riding to and from school with her dad. When she was 11, she had a limb lengthening surgery go awry that left her with a stunted left leg. She lettered in swimming and bowling in high school and earned a crew scholarship to the University of Central Florida where she rowed for two years. But she came back to her first love of cycling and the 2X Paralympic Bronze medalist is aiming for more this summer in Paris. Take a listen as chat with her on this weeks

Curtis Thompson, who helps coach track and field at Spain Park High School, qualified for the 2024 Olympics earlier this week on Sunday, June 23 at the U.S. Olympic trials in Eugene, Oregon. Curtis out threw his opponents more than three feet, having qualified with a javelin throw of 84.03 meters. Please join us in congratulating him!

🎆CELEBRATE INDEPENDENCE DAY🎆
On Sunday, June 30, at 9 p.m. at the Hoover Metropolitan Complex, the City of Hoover will host its annual fireworks show! Patrons can park in the Hoover Met's parking lot and tailgate or sit out on lawn chairs to view the spectacle. Tune in to 87.9 FM for music that pairs with the show!
Yesterday evening at Brock’s Gap Brewing Company, Fly By Radio and The Band U.S took to the stage, drawing hundreds from all over the Southeast for a night of rock 'n roll! Take a look at some of our favorite shots:

Earlier this morning, the City of Hoover broke ground in the Green Valley shopping center off of U.S. 31, where the city's new fire station will be built and is expected to be completed in August 2025. This project will replace Hoover Fire Department Station 1, which has been used since 1962.

"On March 20, 1973, I walked into the Hoover Volunteer Fire Station having no clue that would be my career for 42 years and 51 years later, I would have the privilege of serving as the fifth mayor to come out of the fire department and build our newest fire station," Hoover Mayor Frank Brocato said.

A record of 15,686 baseball fans showed up to the SEC Baseball Championship at the Hoover Met yesterday, making this championship's attendance the second-largest in history. The stadium's pride decked out in purple, yellow, orange and white were electric with enthusiasm, such that transcended the crowds in waves. Although the Vols brought home a 4-3 win over the Tigers, both teams' fans cheered till the very end. Take a look at some of our favorite fan shots:

More than 675 seniors tossed their caps in the air tonight at Bartow Arena, celebrating the commencement of the Class of 2024 from Hoover High School. Earlier this morning, Hoover City Schools Superintendent Dr. Kevin Maddox along with city and school officials held a ribbon-cutting ceremony for Hoover High School's new, $15.4 million performing arts center, which spans 36,000 square feet.
