Esports week 2. He's at a bit of a disadvantage because he forgot his glasses this week.
Edited: maybe it helped. Last week (his first ever in a competition, he won one (13-0 score) and lost two (1-23 and 2-3)
This week, he did incredible. Don't know his win/loss yet, but he scored 16, 9, and 18 in his three matches
COMIC BOOK FANS:
Don't sleep on the new Scarlet Witch series by Steve Orlando (Darkhold) and Sara Pichelli (Ultimate Spider-Man). It is a really fun start and should provide some great stories down the line.
Basically, Wanda owns a trinket shop (that Darcy from Thor helps her run). There is also a doorway in the shop, and when someone needs help and there is nowhere left to turn, they can open a door from anywhere in the world and find their way to Wanda.
The first issue sets this storyline up and brings Wanda her first "client" - a woman whose home was overrun and under the control of the Corrupter. Everyone in the town, including this woman's wife, is under his spell but only she can see through it. The story allowed Wanda to answer for her past actions and set her off on her new future.
This was a good first issue. Don't sleep on it. Give it a try.
And remember to support your local comic book shops.
Of this weekend's new albums - there are 3 that I liked, but only two of them I can really recommend. Last week was all about punk, and this week it was alt-rock for the new releases (I only really talk about genres of music I like, so there won't be much country music on here and little rap or R&B. They just aren't my flavor).
Gaz Coombes: Turn the Car Around - Gaz is a singer-songwriter from the UK who has been putting out music for 30 years now (formerly with Supergrass). This album might be his best solo outing yet. This album is brilliantly put together and the songs are smart and fun. Give this one a listen. You won't be disappointed.
Circa Waves: Never Going Under - With Circa Waves, we are going almost full alt-rock radio music, and that isn't a bad thing. The album took me a couple of listens to really get into it, but this has hints of The Killers, and that includes both band's skill at creating an album that is full of songs you could easily hear playing on the radio. I really enjoyed this one.
The third that was decent, but not great, was Ville Valo: Neon Noir. For those who don't know, Ville Valo (or VV for short) was part of the band HIM, and with this album, he put out a nice mix of good songs, but it often felt repetitive. It might need more listens to really decide if I really like it or not.
I have no idea what I just watched. Ari Aster's (Hereditary, Midsommar) new movie trailer.
Beau is Afraid: A paranoid man embarks on an epic odyssey to get home to his mother in this bold and ingeniously depraved new film from writer/director Ari Aster.

A couple of great albums to start off 2023 with during the first weekend of releases - and they are both punk albums.
Anti Flag: Lies They Tell Our Children - For anyone who hasn't heard of Anti-Flag, they are a punk band that sings mostly about social issues. This is a concept album with them attacking how crappy life is now for so many people plunging into poverty and losing their human rights by the day. The album is fantastic, and there are some big names joining them, including Killswitch Engage’s Jesse Leach, Silverstein’s Shane Told, Bad Religion’s Brian Baker, and Rise Against’s Tim McIlrath.
Iggy Pop: Every Loser - Iggy Pop has never sounded angrier, and that helped him deliver another fantastic punk album at 75 years old. He attacks everyone - including neo-punk bands, which he skewers - and he delivered an old-school punk album where he just rails against everything. Fantastic album for the iconic legend.

Confidence is key when it comes to writing. It's easy to doubt ourselves and our abilities, but the more we practice and believe in ourselves, the more confident we become. Don't be afraid to take risks and try new things in your writing. You never know what amazing ideas and stories you have within you until you let them out onto the page. Believe in yourself and your writing abilities, and you'll be amazed at what you can accomplish!
Have you ever felt like you don't belong or that you're not good enough? You're not alone. This feeling is called imposter syndrome and it affects so many of us. But here's the thing: it's not real. You belong and you are good enough. Don't let your own doubts hold you back. Believe in yourself and your abilities. You got this!
If Taika Waititi says it, then I can too
