Some photos from this week's free outdoor concert thanks to Cenovus during the half way point of Saskatchewan Games. We are on the home stretch with only a day and a bit left of competition and then the closing ceremonies. What a week!

2024 Saskatchewan Summer Games Lloydminster

Yesterday marked the official kick-off to the LOOOONG time coming Saskatchewan Games. I say "LOOOONG" because I was involved with with the previous 2020 games before they were cancelled and stayed on to help with these games. It really became a reality yesterday seeing all the youth start arriving in Lloydminster and get hyped up at yesterday's opening ceremonies. This week will be busy and exciting for our community, our volunteers and all these youth and so proud of how much work everyone has put into making these LOOOONG time coming games a reality!

How awesome! I was asked again to judge the photography submissions of the Lloyd Creates It down at the Lloyd Fair at Lloydminster Exhibition Association. It was nice to see an increase in photo submissions! Check out theae plus all the other hand made items starting tomorrow!

Another amazing LCHS grand march and prom has come and gone. A lot of work but so worth it watching these grads enjoy themselves and allowing me to capture their photo to preserve this once in a lifetime memory. Karla's design and decorating (.ca) is always amazing and helps my photography look that much better! I enjoyed capturing each and every grad and as always, these grads rocked it!! Congratulation LCHS Grad Class of 2024!

I thought this was interesting so I thought I would share. While out capturing photos of the aurora the other night, I also set my camera up to take a time lapse (one photo ever four seconds). For time lapse sequences you set it to manual and start shooting then in post editing, you want to make sure any editing is done to ALL photos for consistency. However, I also started to second guess myself as I inspected images from different points in the series. You will note how dark the first image is to the second BUT if you look at my camera settings (in white at the top left) and all the edits in Lightroom on the right hand side, they are IDENTICAL. What this shows me is how much ambient light the northern lights are producing when they are ON. Specifically look at home much brighter the side of the bridge is. This was taken with my widest lens (14mm) and you can kind of see the streaks of light pouring down in all directions; it's times like this where it would be fun to play with a fisheye lens so you really could see how much light was coming down in all directions. While I'm here showing my edits, you will also note that I don't over saturate my images; only tweak them and increase the texture and clarity for these dark images. What for my timelapses to come at some point!

The clouds parted and the Aurora poured down! From all the data and reports from elsewhere around the world, it was an almost guarantee to see the northern lights last night but the colors and intensity is what made it unique. I have a fairly wide lens (14mm) but I'm still only able to capture a small portion of the sky at any one time. At a few moments last night, it looked like it was raining Aurora; there was streaks of light falling down right to the horizon all around me. I'll post some time-lapse footage at some point too so be sure to follow my page if you are not already.

For those interested in some camera settings, here they are:
F1.8, 14mm Sigma, 3200 ISO, 2, 1.6, or 1 second shutter
The aurora move so quickly that anything more than a 2 second shutter, and you loose the "strings" of light and it blends together.

Please please please GO AWAY clouds!! Never before have I seen a KP index of 9. There could be (or possibly is already behind the clouds) some amazing aurora tonight. Reports from other parts of the world have had the purple / pink /red intensity of aurora. The forecast is not looking good for clouds but who knows. I might just have to hang out in the vehicle tonight and wait for any little tidbit of clear sky. If you see clear sky, let me know!

Spring is here and so is my yearly Crocus photo. This year I tried something a bit different and used an offer camera flash, closed the aperture, and used a remote trigger to spotlight just the crocus flower.

Testing out some new AI upscaling, de-noising, and cleaning up of converted VHS tape files. The zoomed in image on the left is the original and the left is enhanced. I'm down another rabbit hole of testing different ways to convert tapes and so far my process is still out performing the cheap converting products online.

Sometimes I put the good lens to work on my live streams. 200mm f2.8 on a cropped sensor looks goooood.

And that's a wrap! Tonight wrapped up our home game broadcast season for our Green Mile Lancers. Good luck to all the graduating players as they move on. It was a pleasure to watch you play and grow your skills!

I'm excited to convert this batch of slides which includes the Queen's visit to Lloydminster from 1978!! Maybe if we are lucky the owner will let me share some to Facebook! :)

This tape must have been in one of my Beta machines. What do you think would be on a tape of "Doug's Video Jam". Maybe more interesting is how did it continue all the way to #38??!? Other than me, who wants to see what kind of video jammin' Doug did 38 times??

With Valentines Day is fast approaching I feel this is a perfect opportunity to share these photos from last fall of Kurt Price and Heather Klages. I truly appreciate these two and all they do for our community and wish them a long and happy life together!

Congrats to as they win the first ever Astec Safety Challenge against . Amazing to have such high caliber curling right here in Lloydminster this past weekend and thanks to all the organizers, volunteers, and sponsors that made it happen.

Welcome to 2024! A few days late but here are small snapshot of the fun that was had at the Bea Fisher NYE Gala. This was the third year taking photos at the event and this year we offered a large format photo booth with printed photos on site that could be taken home to remember the evening. If you picked up the local paper you may also have seen one of these photos on the cover. Happy New Year everyone!

A few photos from yesterday's Lloydminster Parade of Lights! Couldn't have asked for better weather!

P***y willows on December 16! I heard rumors that there were some buds happening on some trees and decided to investigate for ourselves. Sure enough, on our favorite willow tree out back, there were some p***y willows. Lots of buds but only a few had broken out of their pods to show off their fur.

Having the ENTIRE lake to skate on is a very rare opportunity! Today we took full advantage of the nice weather and spent a big chunk of the afternoon on the ice at Sandy Beach Regional Park. Thanks to Randi for the hot chocolate and of course Howard and Nancy for the figure skating performance! :)

It is always fun to "track" (pun intended) the CPKC Holiday Train down back roads somewhere along the line before it makes it's official stop in Macklin Saskatchewan. Warm temps and no snow made for unique photos this year and easier on the finger tips when waiting for it to arrive. :)

A very quick snapshot from yesterday's Here Comes Santa Claus Lloydminster! What a great event for our community! I didn't have much time to take in all the events so if you have some photos, we all would love to see them!

A few of the images captured at last weekend's sold our PBR down at the Lloydminster Exhibition Association. What a show with some amazing rides and some rank bulls!
