Mmm. Peppermint! this herb is a hybrid of the water mint and the spearmint. When used as an extract it needs to be used sparingly due to its high concentration. Peppermint has been shown to help soothe upset stomachs, treat IBS symptoms, help with headaches, kill mouth germs, ease stuffy noses, boost energy, calm allergies, and sharpen focus!

A few key points from this months with Mona Dave were.
- Peppermint relaxes the muscles in the gastrointestinal tract and can ease stomach pain, nausea and vomiting from chemo!
- The active ingredient of peppermint, menthol, can lessen the pain of migraines and reduce symptoms of light sensitivity, nausea and vomiting. You can even apply a peppermint oil solution to your forehead and temples to take away tension headaches.
- Something about smelling peppermint has been connected to a boost in energy, memory and keeping you alert
- Capsules of peppermint oil have been connected to the ability process problems longer without mental fatigue!

Got anyways you like to enjoy your peppermint?

Cinnamon, from the bark of the cinnamon tree, is used as a spice and medicine! Found in many forms, cinnamon is believed have many health benefits that include: lowering blood sugar, boosting metabolism, improving skin, treating cancer, lowering blood pressure, protecting your brain, reducing inflammation and lowering cholesterol!

Here are a couple key points we liked from this months with Dave
- Studies have shown cinnamon has shown promise for its ability to slow cancer growth or even kill tumor cells. No human studies have been done yet but cinnamon could one day play a role in curing or preventing cancer!
- In a lab setting, cinnamon stopped the build up of a brain protein that's a hallmark for Alzheimer's disease and rats tested to have better memory.
- A cinnamon mask may help fight pimples and redness of the skin. One study suggested that Ceylon cinnamon can fight bacteria that causes acne and another suggested it can boost collagen production.

There is still a lot of research to be done but knowing the possibilities we can all enjoy our cinnamon dolce or snickerdoodle over the Hollidays a little more.

What are your favorite ways to use cinnamon?
