I always wanted a better half to make me whole.
My childhood home was a house decidedly divided by alcohol.
I longed to go steady homesteading,
but a hug-less hut kept my demeanor slightly cold and abrupt.
Unknowingly not getting past the surface, my foundations were frozen.

Some homes are filled with laughter, while in others, children are hushed afterthoughts and tax write offs.

A house will sink in unstable foundation.
No retention of venerability, only vivid memories of anxiety manifesting anger, domestic violence a regular.

In theory, the structure should allow the inhabitants an opportunity for authenticity.

A lot of people fear growing up to be the parents they love. Imagine growing up feeling unloved, like an inconvenience and then seeing your parents faults manifest themselves in the corners of your attic as you age.
I have felt this monster lurking in my DNA first hand. Awoken by inebriation, I’m a the perfect candidate for California sober.

I long for reconstruction of my family home, but know the what’s left of the structure should be long condemned.
Fences create property lines that create larger emotional hurdles than physical ones.

Homes can not stands on bought attempts at reconciliation after neglected affection and a lack of attention. Rehabilitation and restoration maybe the prescription for that property. There are different rules in the home I’ve been fortunate to create with my better half and while we don’t always do it properly, we prioritize differently.

Thursday night I’m going to run some new slick s**t and have a candid convo while I paint. 10/10 it’s going to be TMI because vulnerability can be awkward. Let’s get weird in the name of art, you sip, I’ll paint.

All work will be for sale to the highest bidder at the show. 100% of money raised goes to pay future poetry Joe Montoya’s Poetry Unplugged features at nights hosted Ike Torres. I hope to complete 5 pieces by the end of the night and start the bids at $20. All artwork will be moon themed 🌙 🎨🎤❤️
