๐Ÿง˜๐Ÿผ๐Ÿง˜๐Ÿฝโ€โ™€๏ธโ™‚๏ธ โ™€๏ธ Dear yogis & yoginis I want to share with you a very important concept in yoga: Sadhana. ๐Ÿ™โœจ

๐ŸŒŸthe Sanskrit term sฤdhanฤ refers to spiritual discipline, i.e. the set of practices and rituals, which, performed with regularity & concentration, aims to reach mokแนฃa: liberation.
๐Ÿ’ฎ Sadhana represents the regular & disciplined practice of yoga, not only on the mat, but also in everyday life. It is the path that leads us to spiritual growth & self-transformation. ๐ŸŒฟ๐Ÿ’–

๐ŸŒบ We can say that sadhana is a kind of discipline, because without discipline no sadhana can be fulfilled.
โœจThrough Sadhana we learn to cultivate mindfulness, mental presence & connection with our deepest self. Itโ€™s a moment dedicated to ourselves, an opportunity to find balance, harmony & inner peace. ๐ŸŒ…๐Ÿ•‰๏ธ
๐Ÿ€ Whether you practice asana, pranayama, meditation or simply mindfulness in everyday life, Sadhana accompanies us on the path of personal & spiritual evolution.๐ŸŒŸ

๐ŸŒฑSadhana is your journey to true happiness& fulfillment.

Equanimity in a Stormy World ๐ŸŒŽ๐ŸŒ€๐ŸŒ

Samฤdhi is a very important term, concept, practice & state of yogic awareness.๐Ÿ•‰ Perhaps best known in the context of Patanjaliโ€™s Yogasutra, it is the title of the first chapter of the yogasutra (samadhi-pada) & the 8th limb of the 8-limb-path (ashtanga-yoga) outlined in the second & third chapters.

Etymology & Definitions: The sam/sama (at the beginning of samadhi) refers to balance, sameness, equanimity. โš–๏ธ
The dhi (at the end of samadhi) refers to consciousness, awareness, intelligence; from a verbal root that means to have the experience of awareness.๐Ÿ™Œ

Samadhi refers to both the practice/process & achievement of absorption, concentration, putting together, completion, intense absorption, equanimity. What to learn more ?

โ€œIn most matches I had the crowd against me and had to find a way to overcome that.

At the beginning, I tried to be more connected with the crowd. I realized that there're various factors why I'll never have support from them.

So, I became my authentic self.โ€

So many students tell me theyโ€™re injured so canโ€™t practice yoga. HELLO! NOT TRUE!

Yoga helps you take ownership of your healing journey.

Your yoga mat is a space where you remain empowered & in charge. According to yogic wisdom, your injury is here to *teach you something.* Perhaps your seemingly random injury is here to evolve your personality in some way. Maybe you need to overcome excess fire (pitta) & your injury is here to help you learn how to finally slow down.

Perhaps you need to learn to receive & let others care for you. Perhaps you need to learn how to relinquish control in a deeper way. Or overcome your aversion to stillness. According to yoga, your injury is here to aid you in mastering a skill that draws your highest self forward.

Do you agree? Or can you relate? Join me this week to explore more.

Repost ๐Ÿ’œ

A bit of a long one here...

Itโ€™s World Mental Health Day. It matters. We ALL โ€œdeal with mental health issuesโ€... We all have a mind that can break. Our moods, our thoughts, our confidence, contentment, curiosity, our desires.. They are all directly tied to our mental health.

The sun, the moon, our sleep, diet & movement, habits are too. โ €
โ €
Those of us with the immense privilege (us in the western world) to have access to clean water, nutritious food, safe spaces are more likely to also have the resources to help us manage depression, stress, anxiety, grief & change. โ €
โ €
It is by sharing these resources that we all can heal.
โ €
With help we can all access the luminous qualities of life. Then, even the dark of the night is transformed.โ €โ €
โ €
One resource we have access to is natural light. Are you attuned to natural light? Do you spend time outside or at a window everyday? โ €
โ €
When too much of the light in our world is artificial, we are susceptible to suffering. When we align with natural rhythms we might feel more in sync. โ €
โ €
We have less daylight now in the north... you might be in a job or have other circumstances that limit your access. Do the best you can. Definitely invest in a Vitamin D3 supplement ๐Ÿ˜

Try adding some extra light from a fire or stove, maybe a candle, or twinkle lights in the window to help make lower light feel cozy & more comforting. Try grounding, walking barefoot on the sand or grass, maybe tip your toe in a stream or paddle in the sea, reconnect with the natural vibrational frequency that we are intrinsically attuned with.
โ €
In yoga we acknowledge the presence of all things: the dark, the light and all of the shades in between. We acknowledge & accept the responsibility to realise our resolve, to act wisely & to restrain from harm. Then we get on the mat & practice... ๐Ÿง˜๐Ÿฝ๐Ÿง˜๐Ÿฝโ€โ™€๏ธ๐Ÿ˜‰
โ €
May you find peace in the light of awareness & trust in the process. May you see your own suffering as well as your light & may your natural compassion & empathy within guide you. โ €
Do what you need to keep your mind healthy & strong. As my great friend & teacher John Bell always says 'no stinking thinking' ๐Ÿ˜Š

Always here folks, don't be afraid to text or come to a class (when they are on). Yoga is my therapy for my mental health albeit among other things but it's definitely my go to ๐Ÿ’œ

Big hugs,
Cathy ๐Ÿ˜˜

In the practice of yoga, we focus on our body and its abilities in the present moment. We express gratitude for what we have. We listen, observe, and become aware of external influences. It's about living life feeling mindful and connected!!

Today is the Autumn Equinox ๐Ÿ

It is a perfect time to talk about practices that encourage us to pause and reset. In fact, many spiritual lineages have long considered autumn as a time to turn inward: a time for rejuvenation, reflection, contemplation, and self-transformation.

Practices and observances offer time to review the decisions and actions we've made over the past year. These contemplations are meant to be a learning opportunity, so we have more insight to our choices and behaviours that are not serving our wellbeing and the wellbeing of others, as well as enhance and nourish those that are.

โœจTransformation often begins with setting intentions.โœจ

Intention setting is part of the process of creating new, more nourishing habits. Doing so helps to naturally diminish old habits that do not support us. This naturally re-wires us for change and evolution.

I love creating rituals, especially for the message it sends:

โœจSlow down. Pay attention. This is important.โœจ

But setting intentions doesnโ€™t require a big ritual. And after years of yoga, meditation, and regular intention setting; whatโ€™s happened in my life is this: I still have tough days. (Many tough days). I still feel anger, confusion and disappointment.

But all those feelings now have a much shorter shelf life. Itโ€™s easier for me to recognise them before they take hold. Itโ€™s easier to move through them and back into a state of warmth and openness. Back to a state where I have more choices on how I want to participate with the present moment conditions.

In short, the stress in our lives does not go away. But how we respond to itโ€”and more importantly, how it affects usโ€” can change.

Come practice with me this week, Monday Sliabh Sneacht Centre 7pm & Thursday Gleneely Colts FC 7pm๐ŸŒณ๐Ÿ๐Ÿ™

Happy Birthday Lord Ganesha

Lord Ganesha is the elephant-headed deity revered for being a source of wisdom, a remover of obstacles, and a bringer of prosperity.

Ganesha is connected to Yoga because both are said to help the practitioner/ devotee:

- find a way through challenges
- heighten awareness and innate intelligence
- feel abundance

Ganeshaโ€™s birthday, today, is honoured across India and among Hindu communities across the world.

Since Hinduism is open to all of any faith and none, and, since Ganeshaโ€™s symbolism reflects the intention of Yoga (which predates Hinduism), everyone is welcome to reflect upon Ganesha and receive his blessings - on any day.

For Yoga practitioners, this is a good day / evening to get quiet, offer thanks for whatever adversity you have overcome in your life, and ask for the support of a higher energy for any challenge you might be dealing with now.

If you have a Ganesha deity in your home: offering him a lit candle, a flower petal and something sweet will go down well for his birthday.
