One of the down sides to proofreading other people's works in progress is that sometimes I run into really good stories and I want to talk about them to SOMEBODY, but I can't. It's inherent in the job description. Until the book or article is published, or until the play or movie has been performed or is made, mum's the word. Sometimes even after that, depending on what the author wants. But it's still really nice to run into some gems.
Year round rule: Plurals never need an apostrophe.
It's been a while, but I thought I would post a blog. So old it's new again, I guess? I discuss taking the Writing Through Loss class that they offer at Mission Hospice.

Just a little reminder that I am still here and available for proofreading and copy editing. Writers may be on strike, or supporting screenwriters who are on strike, but that doesn't mean they stop writing. And those WIPs still need to be proofread or copy edited and formatted and made ready. If you are at the point where you need someone to bring your manuscript to the next level, contact me for an estimate!
Why is it called Putt Putt Productions, you may ask? Because I don't speed through when proofreading your manuscript. I go through systematically checking and rechecking your copy. I'm a plodder. I use MS Word's Track Changes or mark up PDF copies on Adobe Reader. I take my time to make sure I catch as many of those typos as possible. Contact me for a quote.
If you are looking for help polishing your website copy, your manuscripts, or even your resume, I can help. Contact me for rates and availability.

I am going to start work on my annual newsletter soon. If you've moved over the past year, would like me to send it somewhere else, send it to you via email instead of USPS, or would like me to take you off my list altogether, please let me know. I'll hopefully have something to send out about the beginning of December (but we'll see).
I haven't published anything in a little while, however, I still have some stories and poetry that are out there for anyone who may be interested in reading it. You can find some of it here on Lulu:
It has been 11 years since I published my book of poetry, "Rae's Bar & Bistro." The links may have changed since then, but you can still find my author page on Amazon here: https://www.amazon.com/Rachel-V-Olivier/e/B007AUX6WM . Or you can find me on Lulu here: https://www.lulu.com/spotlight/Raebob .

I have to say, I do my best work when I work from home.
People return to offices, productivity plunges One of the most interesting things about the pandemic, at least from an employment perspective, is that productivity didn’t suffer as a result of remote work. In many cases, employees became …
It has been a while since I posted on my blog — a month and a half, at least. So, I thought I would post about my most recent good read/listen, which is "Labyrinth Lost," the first in the Brooklyn Bruja series by Zoraida Córdova. I highly recommend it, especially as a good read during Hispanic Heritage Month, October, Halloween, and Day of the Dead!

A while back I began to watch TV with captions because sometimes with accents and background noise and the speed of the speech, you can’t always understand what’s being said.
Most of the time, I don’t need the captions, but I end up reading them anyway when I am watching the screen. And I find that I am constantly proofreading those captions. I keep wanting to take a red pen or pencil to them.
Once upon a time, I had a blog that I called Blogetary. It was my commentary on life, my book and movie reviews and thoughts about all sorts of things. It was a Wordpress blog that I set up to go with my website, but after a while it got hit so many times by viruses and intruders that I took it down. However, I had also set up a "mirror" blog on Blogger.com for the times when Blogetary would get shut down and I had to fix it. I called it My Bit About Me. It's been about five (count'em, FIVE) years since I posted there. The other day, however, I realized that Instagram and Twitter don't really do much for someone who's essentially a word-pusher. I needed a long form social media outlet, so I dug out the old Blogger blog, renamed it Putt Putt Productions, and posted a little bit about my recent fascination with audiobooks. You can read about it here: https://ludoetvexo.blogspot.com/2022/08/reading-vs-audiobooks.html
Reading vs. Audiobooks First off, welcome back! It's been awhile. Well, it's been five years since my last post. My Wordpress Blogetary blog kept getting bombarded...
So, it's been almost a year since I quit working at the Larchmont Chronicle to go full time freelance. There were various reasons for that decision. One of them was that for a variety of health reasons it's just better for me to work from home. And the job I had at the paper pretty much required I had to be there most of the time. I just couldn't do it anymore after a while.
But the good news is that I am fully available for freelance proofreading, copy editing and writing. If you are working on a novel or screenplay or even a proposal for work or school, and you need someone to go over it for you, either just checking it for simple errors, or as a beta reader to make sure it flows, ask me about my rates.
You can see more about what I offer on my website:
Listening to this audiobook. Read it many years ago. I love Discworld.
Monstrous Regiment (novel) - Wikipedia Monstrous Regiment is a fantasy novel by British writer Terry Pratchett, the 31st novel in his Discworld series. It takes its name from a 16th-century tract by John Knox opposing female rule, titled The First Blast of the Trumpet Against the Monstrous Regiment of Women.
I don't think I ever really pointed out that I also do proofreading of screenplays/scripts, as well as proofreading and copy editing other copy, such as brochures, ad copy, novels, short stories, articles, etc.
Screenplays and scripts are charged at a different rate than my regular proofreading rates. I have the client send me a PDF version of their script and I comment/mark-up that version for them. Normal turn around time is around one week, give or take. I work out specific details with each person.
Contact me at [email protected] for more information.
