We have lost another of our cats this week. Earlier in the week BobbySox went out into the garden and didn't return. When Bob went to find him, he was behaving very strangely and neither of us could get near him. He was outside for two cold and rainy days and could not be approached. If we tried he hid under bushes or whatever he could find. We could see he was becoming progressively weaker. Eventually, on Thursday morning, Bob was able to pick him up and take him to the vet. He had a viral infection, Despite everything Filippo did for him, he died whilst still at the vet's, on Saturday morning. At least he was warm and safe for his last few days.
BobbySox turned up in the garden about 10 years ago. He lived in the garden for a very long time before he became brave enough to venture into our apartment.
We now have 4 cats over the age of 10. Bimba and Bernie have now reached the ripe old age of 16. Bimba is very healthy, Bernie has urinary problems. Blue is 14, also very healthy. Brandy is 12 and is showing signs of possible liver failure or renal insufficiency. It's not over yet.
Bobbysox is the sixth cat to die in the last six months. We had an ageing population of cats that were previously feral before they found us. A poor start in life combined with age saw them off.

Bartie turned up in Summer 2009, plonked himself down on the driveway and refused to leave. He was about six months old. He had a very bad eye which we eventually had to have removed but after that he was fine. Until earlier this year when he suddenly lost a lot of weight, no longer Fat Bart, and then his belly became very distended. The vet took one look at him, scanned his abdomen which was full of water, and said he probably had liver failure. That was a few weeks ago, there was nothing we could do. Diuretics helped the water problem and we put him on a hepatic diet but today we had to let him go. Sleep tight Bartie xx

Bartie has liver failure. Tonight he is falling off chairs and walking round in circles. We think he is having fits. He calms down with a firm cuddle and being talked to and then it all starts again. Tomorrow Bob will take him to the vet, I think it may be his final journey. We have so many old, previously feral, cats, we seem too be losing one after another at the moment. The only consolation is that we know we have given them a good life.

Tonight we are saying goodbye to Bayleaf. We've tried so hard to keep her going. She is a cancer survivor of many years but lately she had been struggling. Now she is skin and bone, can't eat and seems to be cold all the time. So with heavy hearts we have decided we must help her on her way.

Think Beanie is well at home ...
