PARKER'S BUCKET IS EMPTY. It's been a hard day, nothing's gone right, and a bully at school has been picking on him. What's a kid to do?!

Got to read All Is Bright at my home church today, for all the kids I know so well. That was a pretty special treat. (And it was also read at 7 other churches that I know of!)

Merry Christmas, friends!

When your eyes well up at your own book, because you realize that the days that “won’t last” … didn’t last. 😕

Appreciate every moment.

Here goes nothin’...

A few years ago, when my oldest child, Avery, was first starting to enjoy books, we began to spend regular time at our local library, in the wonderful children’s department. And I found myself almost more intrigued than my kids by the incredible selection of children’s picture books.

Funny, poignant, artful, sentimental, happy, silly, sad, fascinating, inspiring, joyful, hopeful.
Everything under the sun.

The beauty of such books is in their form.
Because they’re short, they have to tell a story succinctly.
Because they’re full of pictures, they have to tell a story visually—and often beautifully.
Because they’re written for children, they have to tell a story simply and innocently.

And many are truly brilliant works of literature.

So it got me dreaming, and I started teasing a few ideas of my own. Wrote down some ideas, started on some manuscripts, talked to a couple people about illustration and publishing and marketing.

And it all came together in the fall of 2017. I finished a transcript that I was ready to pursue. I came across a freelance website where I could find illustrators who fit my budget. I found self-publishing options that are affordable and powerful. And I decided I wasn’t going to put off this dream any longer.

And here we are.
