🎙️ For years in my 20's and 30's I wouldn't go outside the door without makeup. I was always hiding behind my hair and makeup. My hair had to be perfect...everything had to be perfect all of the time. But over the years as I have let my guard down and been more vulnerable I feel more at peace now and it's more refreshing for people to see that.
Now some days I wear makeup and some days I don't.

🎙️ Our body is made up of cells, it is about what is inside, in our heart and soul that make up who we are, the essence of our being is inside of us. All the other 'stuff' is surface 'stuff'.

🎙️ My body itself has been through the war and back in its life so I don't judge myself and my body any more. I had to start my healing at the age of 39 years to find who I was again.

A lot of my confidence comes from not really caring what other people think is from losing my sister and Mom. I cherish every single photo that I have of them. I love the unposed ones that aren't perfect but capture the essence of them. That captures the moments. These losses put everything into perspective around what is important and what is not.

We need to get over ourselves and get in the picture if not for ourselves but for other people. They will want them in years to come. We are being kind of selfish if you are not. Do it for them.

You are so much more than your body, look at yourself as a whole person.

I am very conscious of how I speak about my body in front of my daughter as for years I have seen women coming out of the changing room saying I look fat in this, the size of my hips and it hurts my soul to see a young girl sitting there listening to this.

About last night... I graduated from the Social Entrepreneurs Ireland Idea's Academy programme.

It was a real pinch me moment that Get In The Picture has received one of the coveted places on the programme for ambitious entrepreneurs with a passion to solve a social problem.

Get In The Picture was chosen for empowering women by combating under presentation, promoting self-confidence & inclusivity, ensuring women feel valued & visible in their own stories.

At the launch event I listened in awe to the incredible entrepreneurs sharing their stories and vision for positively impacting social change. A unique but all with determination, desire and passion to make change to truly create a better society.

Last night at the graduation that feeling bookend my experience in the programme and I was once again in awe of how far we and our vision had come as part of the SEI and their vision to accelerate social change through the power of people.

I met the most amazing people on the programme and I was so honoured and proud to be in that room amongst them.

The time on the programme has opened my eyes to the unlimited potential and importance of Get In The Picture.

It started 2 years ago as a local campaign to empower women to know they are worthy of showing up and be seen as they are, knowing they are enough and to stop erasing themselves and their history.

The biggest challenge is to bring yourself fully, with no mask and be yourself fully in front of people, an audience or camera. I am not sure it’s fully possible but that is what I strive to do and try to get better at every day. People are ultimately attracted to us, our business, our brand when they see ourselves, yet it is one the most difficult things we do…be ourselves!

I am inspired by younger women and their ability to really show up and shine as they are. Really embracing themselves and their bodies of all shapes & sizes. They are choosing confidence.

Take a seat at the table, there are so many opportunities be it sport, broadcasting, going back to college and we can be reluctant to take a seat at the table, get in the picture, be part of the story, be part of the narrative.

Regarding putting myself out there...sport was a great leveller for me as every time you go out and play a match there are spectators, management, teammates and media and they all have an opinion and make judgements, criticism, feedback and learnings.

If you have younger people in your life, kids, younger siblings or anyone you have influence over you want them to believe they are good enough, no matter what shape and size they are. You want them to feel they can do anything, BUT we don't take our own advice.
