SPSSNY is the Student Pharmacist Society of the State of New York, an affiliate of PSSNY.

We are a growing student organization that participates in all major PSSNY events throughout the year, such as Lobby Day in Albany, Owner’s Day, and both winter and summer conferences. We actively encourage all student pharmacists in New York State to participate in SPSSNY. They will become knowledgeable and competent in current issues facing pharmacy. It is also a valuable opportunity to network

Check it out!

The local SPSSNY chapters have been very active in the pharmacy schools throughout New York State. Here are some of the top events going on this Fall:

University at Buffalo School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences: DEA Drug Take Back Day on October 27th. Students will attend this event that encourages community members to drop off and discard old medications. They will be distributing drug disposal pouches for safe drug disposal as well.

D’Youville College School of Pharmacy: Blood pressure screening service learning event at Lupus Walk on September 22nd.

St. John Fisher Wegman’s School of Pharmacy: Promoting National Pharmacy Month by promoting pharmacy awareness and advocacy.

St. John’s University School of Pharmacy: Pharmacist panelist event in September. Pharmacists such as Carole Deyoe, Roxanne Richardson, and Howard Jacobson came to speak with students about how they can get involved with PSSNY.

Long Island University Arnold and Marie Schwartz College of Pharmacy: Member meeting in September. Highlighted the importance of pharmacy student advocacy and helped them register to vote.

Touro College of Pharmacy: Health fairs with Touro College of Osteopathic Medicine and Harlem Community (Harlem’s Week Health Fair and Harlem’s HealthFirst Expo) as well as Flu Shot Clinic at a Walgreens in October.

Albany College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences: Albany Community Health Day on October 13th. Students will host a table to educate the community on deductibles, the coverage gap, and recent developments in pharmacy law.

Binghamton University School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences: Currently establishing their SPSSNY chapter.

Many of the pharmacy schools have come together in collaboration to participate in a letter writing campaign to Governor Cuomo encouraging him to sign Bill S1043/A2857. This would allow pharmacy students to immunize under pharmacist supervision. Allowing pharmacy students to immunize would allow students to better prepare to be pharmacists upon graduation, allow pharmacists more flexibility in their daily workflow, and expand availability of vaccination protection to patients. To learn more on how you can be involved with this campaign, please email a SPSSNY officer!
