We had a great time judging the Deep Cut Orchid Show yesterday. Ribbon judging alongside society members from the region is always fun time and a learning experience for all as we award fantastic plants among the 500+ being exhibited at the show. About a dozen plants and exhibits received AOS awards in the afternoon. We were thrilled our fellow judges from the Mid-Atlantic JC joined us.
It's coming up fast-two weeks from tomorrow! Join us for our annual show at Smith Vocational and Technical School in Northampton.
Another great show we will be judging during the month of January...please mark your calendar for judging and attending
Anne was a judge in our NEJC and will be greatly missed. Her love of orchids and orchid judging were important to her as was she important to the judging and orchid community.
We are saddened to share the passing of long time Deep Cut Orchid Society member Anne Safarewitz. Memorial information below.

Congrats to first time exhibitor and member of Deep Cut Orchid Society, Tony Lombardino for his Paph Nathaniel's Clarity 'Tony's Pixie', which our judges awarded an HCC/AOS. An HCC (Highly Commended Certificate is a flower award awarded to the plant for this lovely cross of two small Paph species (niveum x thaianum). Great growing Tony!
Today's stunner in Boylston - Phragmipedium Memoria Garren Weaver (pearcei x wallisii) 'Hannah Iranzo' was awarded both an AM and a CCM. Phragmipedium wallisii is now considered synonymous with Phragmipedium warzewiczianum by Kew but the RHS has kept the registration as it was originally submitted back in 1996.
A great selection of plant material today!
The next regional orchid show our judging team will be judging at. Don’t miss!

We had the opportunity to judge at another great show going on this week with The Amherst Orchid Society as the host. Shows are really at the heart of what we do as judges. We share and encourage others to share their knowledge about orchids with the goal of everyone participating and having a good time. The Amhurst Society display did win the show trophy and was a large 360 degree display with the team doing a great job of showcasing a wide variety of plants with a walkthrough to the other side and a very clever way of adding terrariums so it appeared as if they were part of the flow of the overall design as the path of orchids continued beyond and into the rest of the design. Kudos! And at AOS judging, we even had fun with a macaw that decided he liked being Joe's assistant. The show is still going on through the weekend so if you are in the Conn and Mass area do not miss it at the Smith Vocational and Agricultural High School 80 Locust St Rt 9
Northampton, 01060.
