Here is the Skagit County respiratory illness data for the week of February 25 – March 2, 2024. Though activity levels and hospitalization rates for COVID-19 have not changed since last week, long-term care facilities continue to be impacted by an increase in the number of COVID-19 outbreaks over the past several weeks.
Adults 65+ remain at highest risk of severe complications from COVID-19 including hospitalization and death. In Washington State, preliminary data shows that over 95% of adults hospitalized from COVID during October – November 2023 had not received an updated COVID-19 vaccine.
The best way to protect yourself is to stay up to date on COVID vaccines. For people 65+ that means getting an additional 2023-2024 vaccine dose. If you have an elderly loved one, encourage them to get a second updated dose if they haven’t already. To find a vaccine provider near you, visit www.vaccines.gov. For information about the updated COVID-19 vaccine recommendations, visit https://doh.wa.gov/emergencies/covid-19/vaccine-information.
Here is the Skagit County respiratory illness data for the week of January 28th – February 3rd, 2024. The activity level for Influenza remains high, but has decreased since last week. COVID-19 activity is slightly lower than the previous week, and RSV activity is unchanged.
Respiratory illness season is still here. Do your part to protect yourself and your loved ones from getting sick.
☑Wear a well-fitting mask in healthcare facilities.
☑Get a seasonal flu vaccine and stay up to date on COVID-19 vaccines.
☑Stay home if you are sick or experiencing symptoms of respiratory illness.
☑Wash hands frequently and cover your coughs and sneezes.
