INTRODUCTION TO MARNHULL CRICKET CLUB
A cricket club was originally established in Marnhull in the pre-Victorian era at a time when the most famous of all cricket grounds, Lord’s, was still in its early infancy, and when cricket bats more closely resembled hockey sticks and the typical playing attire included neck-ties and top hats. Despite this, the current version of Marnhull Cricket Club is definitely one which seeks to move with the times. This is well evidenced by the considerable emphasis placed in recent years upon the development of youth and women’s cricket in the village, in addition of course to running traditional adult league and friendly sides.
In all we now operate eight different teams. At the youth level there are U9, U11, U13 & U15 squads, with over eighty children presently registered. They are overseen by a team of dedicated ECB-qualified youth coaches whose aim is to develop the skills of boys and girls so that they may in due course transition into playing adult cricket if they wish to do so. Our objective is to foster a love of the game of cricket, and all the pleasure and experience it is able to bring.
