1. Make Local as Global
In any industry for the product or service to blossom in the market, awareness needs to be done. With the ample availability of local products and have the potential to export, it is always an undiscovered path for many of the exporters to tap on the local products which in return fetches a big deal in the market.

2. Identify the Quick wins
If the product is already moving in the market, identify the right product that can accommodate your bandwidth, and fetch better results when compared to the range of other fast-moving products. This phase requires your critical analysis and street smart thinking.

3. Focus on Seasonal Products
Fruits like Mango, grapes, Custard apple, etc are said to be the seasonal fruits that usually have a high demand in the market during the season. In this phase, exporters should be ready with the plan and capture the opportunity for better results.

4. Stay cautious during the Peak season
It is always advised not to start the business during peak season for the product that you are trying to export. The reason being, you need your supply chain to function to reach your product to the final destination. If at least one step in your chain is delayed or stopped, the entire investment is at risk, and also the prices that you get for your products post-peak season is comparatively less. This means there is a lot of risk at this time.

5.Rate fluctuations
There are a few products in the market that have a different market value at a different time of the day. Example: Onion, If the price of onion started at 10.10 ps and ended with 10.70 ps with 3 more prices on that day, it is difficult for a beginner to calculate the rate fluctuations. In this case, the best solution can be given by a consolidator who fixes a standard price irrespective of market value, gives you a deal along with a timeline, and advance payment. If the deal is made the consolidator is liable to the negotiated price.

These two became a significant commodity for the Romans, Greeks and the Egyptians- it was said that the Roman emperor Nero had a whole years harvest of Frankincense burned at the funeral of his beloved. According to the Roman Historian Pliny the Elder it took 62 days to complete the route with 65 stops. Which generally takes a day's worth of travel would bring the caravans to the next stop.

There are two most famous such routes in the global salt trade history. The most famous was the Roman Via Salaria (Salt Route), which ran from Ostia, near Rome, across Italy to the Adriatic coast. Salt being a precious commodity used as a flavour, preservative and even as an antiseptic made up a portion of a Roman soldier’s pay. Interestingly, it is from this that we get the word ‘salary’ from the latin word ‘sal’ which means salt.

The Old Salt Road was another significant salt route across Europe. It was 62 miles from Lüneburg in northern Germany, one of the most abundant sources of salt in northern Europe, to Lübeck on the coast of northern Germany.

Amber has been traded since 3000 BCE and was considered decorative and as having medicinal properties by the Romans. They developed the Amber Road linking the Baltics with the rest of Europe for Amber trade.

Amber is one of the first gems used in long distance trade. Due to its unique characteristics, this gem was recognized as ‘northern gold’ by the Greek and Roman Empires. Archaeologists in 3400-2400BCE discovered Baltic amber beads from various pharaoh tombs in the Tethys pyramid.

Even today one can find traces of the old Amber Road in Poland, where one of the major routes is still known as the “Amber Highway”.

Sea routes extend from the west coast of Japan through the islands of Indonesia, around India to the lands of the Middle East - and from there, to Europe via the Mediterranean. It is a treacherous journey of 15,000 kilometres ventured by people who were driven by the need for trade. Spices were the key and most lucrative commodities they traded in - giving the routes their name. The Spice Routes were and still are, first and foremost trade routes. There are arguments that states that development of faster boats, discovery of new islands, fostering of new diplomatic relationships between East and West were fueled by the spice trade. Christopher Columbus who set out on his famous voyage in 1492 was also partly motivated by the need for spice trade. On the back of the spice trade, several wars were fought, lands were colonized, and fortunes were made, making this trade route one of the most important factors in terms of globalization.

Silk was exported from China in return for the import of wool, silver and gold coming from Europe. The Silk Road originated in Xi’an, China, and travelled alongside the Great Wall of China before crossing the Pamir Mountains into Afghanistan and on to the Levant. Eventually the silk road also paved the way for the spread of knowledge, technology, religion, and arts. Italian explorer Marco Polo became the first European to visit China following his travel through silk road during the 13th century. Apart from the trade and cross cultural links that the route had, scientists also believe that the merchants who travelled through this route spread the plague bacteria that caused the Black Death.
