Looking forward to this one!

Don’t worry if you haven’t come along before, most people come solo but soon make friends. That’s the most lovely thing about these hikes - such like-minded souls come along 🥰 and we go at a very leisurely pace, so no fitness needed!

Booking is via BookWhen.com/schoolhoursadventures and is £17

Hope to see you there!

Over Easter weekend I travelled up to Carlisle to meet friends and run along Hadrian’s Wall

The weather was amazing, the company excellent and the scenery beautiful.

We set off and ran 15 miles to Carlisle, but I managed to get a rather large blister (annoying as I don’t normally get them). The others carried on while I used a bus to skip 7 miles, then walked the remaining 7 miles to a rather brilliant B&B with a roll top bath and four course dinner.

The next day I knew I was in too much pain to run, I must have altered my gait as the whole top of my foot was on fire. Paracetamol, blister plasters, tape and snacks were deployed and I managed to walk 15 miles to the youth hostel at the half way point along the wall, where pizza and shandy were very welcome

A very dear friend who lives in Newcastle came to rescue me the next day, took me for lunch and put me on a train home a day early. A lot of people said how sorry they were for me…but honestly I am pretty happy to have run/walked nearly half the wall (37 miles over two days, on a very light amount of training after an ankle sprain), spent time with people who mean a lot to me and to spend so much time outdoors in the sunshine in such an amazing and historic place

I’ve saved my stories from the trip into a highlight reel on my profile if anyone is interested in more photos.

My foot is healing up nicely and I’m already plotting my next adventure - hiking and wild camping along the Norfolk Coast Path in July ☀️

Looking forward to April adventures with my walking group too! 💚

After a string of injuries it’s really nice to get out on long runs again, and this one on Sunday evening did not disappoint!

My favourite thing about running is the take-your-breath-away moments, like this sunset as I ran down the river beach 🌅 and I look forward to more moments like this!

It’s half term for my kids this week, but I can’t wait to take you all out running and hiking after they go back. Check the BookWhen schedule to see when you can come and find your breathtaking moments 🥰

Sometimes things don’t go to plan, especially with a new business

I was supposed to lead a half marathon hike last Saturday, but everyone dropped out (and there weren’t many bookings to start with). So it’s a good opportunity to reflect on this type of event. My previous Saturday hike (7.5 miles) had three attendees, was fun, and I met a new running/adventure buddy. Priceless!

So perhaps 13 miles is too far. I’ll be looking to book some more 7ish mile things in on Saturdays though, even though I have called myself “School Hours Adventures”, I know it’s hard for a lot of you to make it in those hours. Looking forward to summer evening walks!

Anyway, instead of walking 13 miles I gathered some friends and we walked 9 miles. We’re off to the Gower Peninsula at the start of March so they’re all keen to practise for that!

If you have any thoughts on Saturday hikes and lengths of hike do let me know in the comments

Come along on a little run/walk (also known as a “Jeff!”) up to see the river on Monday!

7 places left :) £6 for 30 minutes and a bucket load of fun. It’ll be the best money you spend all day!

Photos from School Hours Adventures's post 06/02/2024

Join us on a big hike this Saturday! Dogs are welcome along too on this one 🐾

Perfect if you’re training for any summer adventures/events. Have you got anything challenging in the diary for 2024?

Just so pleased with how everything is going with this!

I started School Hours Adventures because I’ve spent five years hiding behind a screen selling products, but my real love is for being outside. I really wanted to be an enabler for other people to get outside too! And I’d hoped to meet some more friends to go adventuring with too!

My hike next Friday is sold out, but there are spaces on the Half Marathon Hike next Saturday (not as scary as it sounds - we’ll have a lovely walk over near Woodbridge!) and four spaces left on the March hikes

If things keep being popular I’m considering adding a different day in, and maybe a run/walk group for beginner/returning runners too (I’m also a qualified run leader!)

Let me know what you’d like to see in the schedule! It all helps shape what I offer for the future 🥾 🏃‍♀️

What a lovely day it was today! It felt a bit spring-like even. Did you think so?

I had a great week running and hiking 38 miles in total. Then on Monday I stubbed my toe pretty hard on the sofa leg and it’s been hurting to walk 🤦🏼‍♀️ but today it felt a bit better and I managed a dog walk, but it did feel sore. Happily I don’t have any guided hikes till Friday/Saturday next week so it should be fine by then (or I’ll be able to pain-killer up enough to manage!)

Trying to be positive about this setback 🥲

There are three spaces left on the next hike, which will be in East Bergholt next Friday 9th Feb

On Saturday four of us headed out on a mini-adventure. I'd called it a "train-hike adventure", but what I should have called it was a "rail-replacement-coach-hike adventure", as there were engineering works going on

Anyway, we got on a giant coach from Manningtree to Wrabness, and it's really surprising how you can get such a large vehicle down back country lanes. At one point we were stuck behind a peacock that was running down the lane in front of us 😂

We finally made it to Wrabness and headed off past The House for Essex (have you seen it?) and onto the Essex Way. The sun was shining and the 8 miles flew by as we chatted away.

If you fancy coming out on a longer walk there's the Half Marathon Hike on the 10th February, and I'll be adding some more longer ones in too. What length would you like to see in the schedule?

On Friday I was lucky enough to have eight women join me on a hike around Lawford!

Thank you all so much for coming along. The weather was lovely and sunny (if a little breezy!) and the company was excellent.

One of the joys of doing these walks is getting to meet so many lovely people!

I've updated the schedule for February-May, so do take a look at what's on offer and let me know if you have any questions or if there's anything you'd like to see!

In September I went on my first solo adventure

I’d wanted to run the Hebridean Way for a while, but I was injured and so cycling seemed a better and faster option. I took my bike up to Scotland on the train (not an easy task from Suffolk!) and had what were some of the most challenging three days of my life 😅

Things did not go entirely to plan (ferries were cancelled, weather was bad, buses wouldn’t let me on, felt massively homesick, barely slept etc etc), but I am so pleased that I stepped so far out of my comfort zone and did this trip. I met some brilliant people, saw the beautiful Outer Hebrides, saw two golden eagles, gained loads of confidence in myself and my abilities to venture into wild places.

Would I do it again? At the time it was a huge NO, and I definitely learned that I’d prefer to go on adventures with others. In fact, that’s partly what School Hours Adventures is about - finding new friends to go adventuring with! But if there was something I really wanted to do and no one wanted to go then yes, I would go solo again

Are there any trips on your bucket list for 2024?

It’s been so grey for so long! I’m really happy to see the sun today!

This morning I’ve been at Kay’s Kinship Creative Design Consultancy studio session to network and get some thoughts on this new business

Having grown Little Robin Education into a mature and successful business I thought it would be easy to start a new venture. And while it’s not as hard as when I did it the first time, it’s always so good to get other perspectives and ideas on things

We all set a goal for the month and mine was to sell out my next walk (26th January, link below!)
