Two types of ways to exfoliate your skin READ BELOW 👇🏽

Understanding these differences allows you to choose the exfoliation method that best aligns with your skin type, concerns, and preferences.

𝗣𝗛𝗬𝗦𝗜𝗖𝗔𝗟 𝗘𝗫𝗙𝗢𝗟𝗜𝗔𝗡𝗧𝗦 - scrubs with granules, brushes (dry brushing), or abrasive cloths.

𝙀𝙭𝙛𝙤𝙡𝙞𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣 𝙙𝙚𝙥𝙩𝙝: superficial or surface-level exfoliation.

𝙎𝙠𝙞𝙣 𝙨𝙪𝙞𝙩𝙖𝙗𝙞𝙡𝙞𝙩𝙮: not for sensitive or easily irritated skin - can lead to over-exfoliation or microtears.

𝙁𝙧𝙚𝙦𝙪𝙚𝙣𝙘𝙮 𝙤𝙛 𝙪𝙨𝙚: generally used 1-3 times per week, depending on the product and skin sensitivity.

𝙁𝙧𝙚𝙦𝙪𝙚𝙣𝙘𝙮 𝙤𝙛 𝙪𝙨𝙚: frequency can vary but often recommended to start with once or twice a week and then adjust based on skin tolerance.

𝙍𝙚𝙨𝙪𝙡𝙩𝙨: results take longer to become noticeable however it leads to more even skin tone, reduced fine lines, and improved texture.

𝘾𝙖𝙪𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣: some chemical exfoliants can increase sensitivity to UV rays.

There are SO many benefits to adding this skincare superhero into your routine:

✨ Reduces Hyperpigmentation and Brightens Skin:
Retinol slows down melanin production and helps fade existing dark spots while preventing the formation of new ones. This results in a more even and radiant complexion, leaving your skin looking brighter and more youthful.

✨ Treats Acne by Unclogging Pores and Exfoliating Skin:
Retinol pe*****tes pores and exfoliaes the skin's surface, helping to remove dead skin cells and preventing them from clogging pores. Additionally, retinol can reduce inflammation associated with acne, helping to soothe redness and irritation.

✨ Increases Cell Turnover and Boosts the Production of Collagen:
As we age, the rate at which our skin sheds old cells and replaces them with new ones slows down. One of the most common skin concerns I see when treating my clients - hyperpigmentation!

So what exactly is hyperpigmentation anyway? 🤔

Hyperpigmentation is a skin condition characterized by patches of darker skin due to excess melanin production. It can result from sun exposure, hormonal changes, or inflammation, leading to uneven skin tone.

Here in the Caribbean, hyperpigmentation is an extremely common skin concern due to the abundance of sun exposure we receive daily. ☀️

To reduce the effects of hyperpigmentation, include these products in your daily routine:
1. Broad Spectrum Sunscreen - Make sure your sunscreen protects you from both UVA & UVB. UV radiation from the sun can worsen existing hyperpigmentation and trigger the production of more melanin, which exacerbates the condition.
2. Vitamin C Serum - Vitamin C is an antioxidant that can help brighten the skin and even out skin tone. It also helps protect the skin from oxidative stress caused by UV exposure and pollution, making it a great product to combine with sunscreen for ultimate UV protection!
3. Retinoids - Retinoids help enhance skin cell turnover and stimulate collagen production and are known to help fade hyperpigmentation by exfoliating the outer layer of the skin and encouraging the growth of new, evenly pigmented skin cells.
4. Salicylic & Glycolic Acid - These ingredients are great exfoliants for removing dead skin cells & unclogging pores. They help to reduce hyperpigmentation by shedding darkened & damaged skin cells and encouraging the growth of fresh skin cells. They help improve the absorption of other products, making your hyperpigmentation treatment regimen more effective.

Just a couple of things I learnt in 2022 that I will most certainly be taking with me in 2023. & I hope this helps you too!

Never underestimate the power of self care, unplugging yourself & resetting through rest & disconnecting from all things social.

One of the many things I wish I could do is be consistent in showing up for you guys on here but I’m simply just not there yet. I still struggle with days where fatigue gets the best of me & I have no choice but to unplug for several days. The good thing is it’s now days instead of weeks or months. 🥳
