Star Power!

Gentle touch for our communities who are grieving 08/11/2023

Practitioners who may want to set up an event: it's very important to offer your services for free, and not to include marketing materials like brochures etc., or drive people to your website.

We are looking for ways to give back, with a pure heart. Trust, that this will be good for all of us, as time goes by, without effort or stress.

This is why I am carefully presenting this separately from my business. I don't want the slightest whiff of marketing. If I could make this happen anonymously, like Laotse's sage, I would do that.

More details in the presentation materials via this mailing that went out last week. Pay special attention to "the six Esses".

Lewiston shooting and community trauma

To Mainers and beyond who are hurting, to those who want to host community events of healing, and especially to those who have skills of gentle touch like Reiki, massage, reflexology, Trager - any practice that lets you be quietly present, with gentle touch, without judgment or agenda - I have some ideas with which I would love to inspire you.

At last night's press conference, Governor Mills said we are now on a "long and difficult road to healing" and "we will heal together."

Maine has been very welcoming and nurturing to hundreds, probably even thousands of holistic healing practitioners, who often do their work quietly in private spaces.

There are great examples, though, of practitioners gathering in public spaces after collective traumas, co-creating comfort and balance for their communities. As I've posted before, one such was the gathering of Reiki practitioners in the parks of New York on the anniversaries of 9-11. Each year, hundreds of people received deep relaxation at a highly stressful time.

We can do this, too, in different ways.

Would you join me in a Zoom meeting Monday night Oct. 30, at 7:00 p.m., to brainstorm ways we could inspire this to happen? Everyone is welcome, including faith leaders, practitioners, venue hosts, and anyone touched by the horrible violence in Lewiston this week.

Here's the link to register:
https://us02web.zoom.us/meeting/register/tZEsd-6orDgoEtG65F4ROdXbnbl6aIEUQpgs

The meeting will be recorded, and shared with anyone who registered - so even if you won't be available, please register to show your interest.

Although I am using some of Reiki Community Health & Wellbeing LLC's resources to support this initiative, I intend for it to be self-organized and owned by all of us. I have experience and advice to offer, and will be organizing at least one event myself, but this is not a business or marketing idea. It is a deep impulse toward community connection and service, in a time of great need.

I hope you can join us, either Monday or later on!

Thank you so much,
Jeffrey Hotchkiss

9-11 healing, in the parks of Manhattan 27/10/2023

Thank you, new followers!

In 2003, I began volunteering with a group in New York that was offering Reiki and other modalities on September 9 and 10 in Manhattan parks - mostly Washington Square Park.

It was such a fantastic experience for me, and for those hundreds of people who jumped on our tables for deep relaxation at a stressful time, that I kept going through 2010, the last year of the program.

The group, SPARK in the PARK and later, SPARK Energy, also offered private sessions on September 11, to families of the victims who fell with the Twin Towers.

This experience showed me what could be done to support community healing after unspeakable loss.

They had to jump through a lot of hoops in city bureaucracy to do this work. In the aftermath of the shootings in Lewiston, I have started to think about more direct, spontaneous ways to do this here in Maine. I've already made a connection to one possible venue in Portland (pencil in Nov. 5), and tomorrow will be adding sessions to a location I presently serve.

We have a true opportunity for service to community, that isn't about marketing our practice but strongly supporting our friends and neighbors at a very difficult time.

Please let me know by commenting below, if you want to find ways to do this in your communities.

Thank you,
Jeffrey Hotchkiss

(Note: the links to SPARK no longer work in the blog post, the group dissolved after the 10th anniversary of 9-11)

9-11 healing, in the parks of Manhattan Below is an article I wrote in 2003, after returning from my first volunteer service in New York, doing Reiki in the parks of Manhattan with a dedicated bunch of loving compassionate healers. Only …

26/10/2023

The violence was brought home to us in Maine, with the mass shooting in the city of Lewiston. Now we join so many other states which have experienced this.

Mainers are hurting deeply. We need to help our neighbors. Those of us who have skills in gentle touch have gifts to offer. Reiki, massage therapists, reflexologists, Primus, Kinetic Chain Release, somatic therapy, and all manner of modalities are represented here. The state has blessed us with very reasonable legislation allowing free practice. We are thus in a position to give back, in this time of deep wounding.

How can we do this? I have some ideas based on past experience, and I'm sure you do too. Let's start work on it!
