Thursday, September 12th join New Yorker TV Critic Vinson Cunningham, State Senator Jabari Brisport, and NYC-DSA for a conversation about Vinson’s novel Great Expectations, which recounts a young man’s experience on the campaign trail of a senator running to be the first Black person elected president.

Vinson and Jabari will discuss Great Expectations and the impact Barack Obama’s campaign had on the left, which was both a political awakening and a disappointment that revealed the need for a more progressive and transformative politics.

At the same time, New York City Council is considering allocating $225 million to build Cop City NYC in Queens. City Council has until June 30 to vote on next year’s budget — We demand that City Council use all powers at their disposal to oppose Cop City NYC and put that money toward our libraries, schools, parks, and affordable housing instead.
