July 10, 2024

Based on the laboratory examination conducted by BFAR 8 - Provincial Marine Biotoxin Laboratory in Catbalogan City, seawater samples along CAMBATUTAY BAY in Tarangnan, Samar, are POSITIVE for Pyrodinium bahamense, a toxic microorganism that causes paralytic shellfish poisoning (PSP).

Hence, a LOCAL RED TIDE WARNING is issued for this area to safeguard human lives. The public is advised to REFRAIN FROM GATHERING, TRANSPORTING, and EATING all types of shellfish and Acetes sp., locally known as "Alamang," from this bay. The same warning still prevails in IRONG-IRONG BAY in Catbalogan City, MATARINAO BAY in Eastern Samar (General MacArthur, Quinapondan, Hernani, and Salcedo), and the coastal waters of GUIUAN, EASTERN SAMAR.

Fish, squid, shrimp, and crabs from the above-mentioned bays are safe for human consumption, provided that they are fresh, thoroughly washed, and have had their internal organs, such as gills and intestines, removed before cooking.
