About a month ago a friend reached out asking if I could help rehome a dog that her coworker posted on social media for free. I asked her to find out if the dog was still available and she later said she had given her away already. I asked if I could have the woman's phone # to offer to spay her dog for free. I contacted her and she agreed to the spay. About a week later she contacted me to tell me she changed her mind about keeping her and told the owner who then rehomed her again to another woman. I found out that this was the 4th home the dog was rehomed to, and she is only 1 years old! Nothing wrong with the dog, just the people taking her in. I asked for this new owner's contact info, but she didn't agree to the spay. She wanted her to have at least 1 litter. I told her the pros of getting her spayed and cons of breeding her and was able to convince her to allow me to get her spayed. This woman has physical challenges due to illness, so I brought the dog to the vet and got her spayed and vaccinated under my organization Keep Me Warm Doghouses, Inc. Long day traveling across 2 boroughs and to our vet in LI, but so grateful that it was finally done! This was not just a spay, it's ending the generations of dogs birthed to this previously intact dog and her offspring. It's ending the possibility of her pups being used to breed over and over again. It's ending the possibility of abuse and neglect at the hands of those who are supposed to love, protect and provide for the needs of their dogs. It's ending the possibility of her dogs, or their offspring going into shelters and being killed simply because there isn't enough room. We have to end this vicious cycle and it starts with spay and neuter!

Looking for a foster, adopter, or rescue to save Callie's life. She will be going to ACC shelter soon if help cant be found. They are past capacity and euthanizing dogs at an alarming rate!

This is the reason we promote adoption, not shopping from breeders or petshops. This sweet female Golden doodle made thousands of dollars for her owner by mass producing puppies for her year after year. Now that she is no longer able to produce puppies since she is 9 yrs old, her owner is having her euthanized! Discusting, cruel, heartless! Sadly, this is not the exception, this actually occurs frequently. Please, if you're able to foster or adopt do so. This darling deserves a loving and safe home to live out the rest of her life. Please DM ryangraney on IG. Located in Lockport NY, she is willing to transport. Thank you💖

URGENT: Foster or Adopter needed by July 8th. The human mom of these sisters is terminally ill and is going into a terminal care facility. Adele and Annabella are bonded sisters. They are 8-year-old shepherd mixes and weigh around 50 lbs. They are very sweet but quite timid and skittish. They are adjusting very well to being walked on a leash. They are good with other dogs and cats but are very nervous around strangers and loud sounds. A home with small children isnt recommend. The dogs were spayed when puppies and have recently been to the vet and received their rabies vaccines and were tested for worms etc. They are healthy! Contact: Janine Raynor, if interested, or can offer help 631 495-4346. Thank you💕

So thrilled to announce another happy furever story. The foster fail of sweet Remy🥰 2 yrs ago I was sent a pic of a dog put out on his dog bed onto the curb. My friend and I went to get him just 10 min before NYPD and FDNY who were on the scene to take him to the kill shelter. With the help of a friend we got him a foster, then adopter who was a neighbor of the foster. Then this past December they contacted me to say they were giving him up because he wasn't good with small dogs and they feared him getting off the leash on their walks. A few advocates helped us to find 2 angels, 2 cousins that stepped up to foster him. Within a few short weeks his foster said "he is my forever." We wanted to give him some time because she had 2 cats that he had to acclimate to. Thank you to Janine and Bethani for donating to his training! 2 months later and Remy has been adopted by her 💕He is doing well with the cats and she says he is the sweetest dog and her cousin states, "he is a dream dog." From the streets of Jamaica Queens NY to a rural town in PA where he has acres of land to explore and visits to his momma's cousin's vineyard. What more could we ask for. This is the power of "the village" this is rescue💝

❤️Keanu Reeves is a true dogs lover 🥰.And you?👇

This is Matrix movie star Keanu Reeves. He was abandoned by his father at 3 years old and grew up with 3 different stepfathers. He is dyslexic. His dream of becoming a hockey player was shattered by a serious accident. His daughter died at birth. His wife died in a car accident. His best friend, River Phoenix, died of an overdose. His sister battled leukemia.
No bodyguards, no luxury houses. Keanu lives in an ordinary apartment and likes wandering around town and often seen riding a subway in NYC.
When he was filming the movie "The Lake House," he overheard the conversation of two costume assistants, one crying as he would lose his house if he did not pay $20,000 - On the same day, Keanu deposited the necessary amount in his bank account. In his career, he has donated large sums to hospitals including $75 million of his earnings from “The Matrix” to charities.
In 2010, on his birthday, Keanu walked into a bakery & bought a brioche with a single candle, ate it in front of the bakery, and offered coffee to people who stopped to talk to him.
In 1997 some paparazzi found him walking one morning in the company of a homeless man in Los Angeles, listening to him and sharing his life for a few hours.
In life, sometimes the ones most broken from inside are the ones most willing to help others.
This man could buy everything, and instead every day he gets up and chooses one thing that cannot be bought.

A year and a half ago I was sent a picture of a dog on his bed left in the street. I called my fearless friend Martha and we went and got him just minutes before NYPD was taking him to ACC, the kill shelter. The next day my friend Sue got us a foster. We got him neutered, vaccinated, and he was treated for an eye infection. Within weeks the foster's neighbor adopted him. We were so happy. Then a couple of months ago I got a call from his family that they couldn't keep him. He wasn't good with small dogs and they feared for the small dogs in the community should he get off leash. They agreed to hold onto him until we found a foster or adopter. This wasn't an easy task due to his age(7 yrs old) and his breed(pitbull mix). I was told he had to leave their home in March and in the 11th hr 2 compassionate women stepped up to be his fosters! Martha and I drove him to his foster home last week and we are happy to report that he is safe, well cared for and adjusting well! Thank you to one of my besties, Phyl London who networked to get a foster or adopter and all the advocates and networkers, especially Bethani who helped us find this amazing family💕It takes a village! Will post the next stage of his journey as it unfolds🥰

An animal lovers club in Bayside HS reached out to me wanting to do a fundraiser for Keep Me Warm Doghouses, Inc. When they contacted me to pick up the donation, I asked if I could do a presentation for their members and they said yes, we would love that! Presented on animals used for testing, "fashion", entertainment and consumption. They gave me thank you cards and dog toys that they made. Such a sweet group of compassionate teens. Hoping the presentation planted seeds for future activists🐶😺🦝🦊🐨🐾

Last weekend Second Chance Rescue saved a beautiful dog from being euthanized simply because there wasn't any room in the shelter. Zane's death was planned for 5pm last Friday. Since we were able to foster him, SCRescue was able to negotiate his release from the Animal Care and Control Shelter. We picked him up on Sunday, he had been coughing a bit, and drooling, but seemed fine. We took him for a few walks, learned what a beautiful soul he had, and showed him affection that he seemed starved for. He didn't want to eat, so we figured he would the next morning. As the night progressed, his cough became worse and he started drooling alot, with nasal discharge. By the next morning he was very sick and we took him to the emergency hospital because it was a holiday. We were told he needed to stay and was later diagnosed with pneumonia. Once stabilized he was brought to another veterinary clinic, where he continued to be treated for pneumonia. He remained under treatment and observation for 5 days, then succumbed to his illness and passed away.

We are devastated because we were so hopeful that he was going to have a second chance at a beautiful life, one that he deserved. We are also saddened for all the dogs that remain at the shelter and if not adopted soon, will be euthanized, perfectly adoptable dogs with much love to give, but being sentenced to death because their owners dumped them there, and the shelter is overcrowded.

Please, please consider adopting from a shelter or rescue if you plan to add a fur baby to your family. Save a life, because their lives matter💕

Please consider a donation of any amount to Second Chance Rescue. Zane was scheduled for euthanasia last Friday at 5pm at the shelter ACC Manhattan. Second Chance Rescue arranged his release from ACC and my friend and I went and got him. He was with us as fosters for 24 hrs and initially he only had kennel cough which is commonly spread in shelters, and was drooling alot. By the evening he had nasal discharge, and was not eating. By the next morning he became worse and we brought him to an emergency veterinarian hospital after speaking with the rescue. He is being treated for pneumonia and has only slightly improved. The bills are growing day by day and we are praying that he makes it. There are several potential adopters interested and we are hopeful that he will be able to live a wonderful long life💕

We want to share an update with you on Zane. If you recall, the other day, we asked for your help saving a 2-year-old dog dumped at NYCACC by his owners after they stated they “had no more time for him.”

Zane's story surfaced on the internet; it was heartbreaking, and worse, he was set to be euthanized. We couldn’t let that happen and sent a volunteer to get him out in time.

What we didn’t know when we picked him up was that a severe infection was brewing in his lungs and about to rear its ugly head. Within 24 hours, Zane began breathing with increased effort; snot and drool poured from him; he was weak, lethargic, and refusing to eat. We wasted no time and transported Zane to an emergency hospital, where he was diagnosed with a severe bout of pneumonia.

Despite all efforts, Zane is still in serious condition. He is weak and refuses to eat. He is being treated with IV Fluids, antibiotics, and nebulizer treatments, and the staff is performing Coupage care. The doctors have administrated an appetite stimulant, and we pray it will help.

We are dedicated to saving Zane’s life and will continue to provide him with any and all care that he needs to make it out of this nightmare.

We weren’t anticipating this expense when we pulled him, and our bills have surpassed $8,000. We won’t give up on him and will spare no expense. He deserves to live and find a family who will cherish him.

We thank you for your support and will share an update with you as soon as as can.

A few days ago I saw a dog in a contractor's truck in my neighborhood. I found the man working on my neighbor's yard and spoke to him about not leaving his dog in his truck even with the windows partially opened. Even on a cooler day, the temperature climbs rapidly and a dog could die from heatstroke. He told me he got this dog recently and he annoys his older dog at home, so he's been bringing him on jobs. I gave him suggestions on how to have the 2 at home, but kept separate until he returns. He told me he got his dog(a German shepherd puppy) from a Texas rescue. He had planned to get one from a breeder, but he wanted $7000! He adopted this dog from the rescue for $150, neutered and vaccinated. I thanked him for rescuing his dog and saving a life. He thanked me for my concern for his dog and said he would bring him home and not leave him in the truck again.

Please don't leave your dog alone in a car even for a few minutes, especially on hot days. Adopt, from a rescue or shelter. There are so many wonderful dogs in need of a loving home💕

On my dog walk I met a dog and her owner while they were out in their yard. I noticed a rash on the dog's neck and her owner said she was going to take care of it. Months later the dog still has the rash. The owner told me she hasn't been able to take her due to financial constraints.

We got her to the vet and she is on meds, recommended a change in diet and her skin is so much better! This is how Keep Me Warm Doghouses helps community dogs to live a greater quality of life, and to keep them with their owners, the ones who really care about their dogs.

Bear came to us as a surrender from a family who took him in as a stray mid Covid. Although they loved him, they realized they didn't have time for him and wanted better for him. Bear is about 3 yrs old and is a bulldog mix. He's very sweet and good with dogs, humans and even cats.

Bear got adopted by a wonderful family who lives in the suburbs with a few of their dogs, cat and kids. Bear finally has a home to call his own, and we are so thrilled for him. Thank you to our fosters and my rescue partner and friend Sue. New Year, New life Bear Bear. You soo deserve it❤

Exciting news! The Puppy Mill Pipeline Bill has been officially delivered to the Governor's desk! So, she now has exactly 10 days to sign it! Now, more than ever we need to make a call every day this week to urge her politely to sign the bill, and also, please share this alert with your friends, families, and contacts!

Call Governor Hochul’s office at (518) 474-8390; press 3, and then press 1 to leave a message in which you can say "Hi my name is _______. I am a New York State resident, and I am calling to urge Governor Hochul to sign the Puppy Mill Pipeline Bill- Bill S1130- into law. S1130 is bipartisan legislation that protects dogs, cats and rabbits by prohibiting their sale in NY pet stores and it is very important to me that she sign this bill into law."

It is really important to be upbeat and very polite. If we are rude or disrespectful it will only lead to a bad result.

We delivered an insulated doghouse to a young Doberman in Queens who had inadequate shelter. His owner purchased a heater online for the doghouse we gave him free of charge. With every delivery we also offer resources such as free or low cost spay/neuter which he was interested in and education on dogs being social and "pack" animals who thrive with human contact/bonding with their families. Owner told me his dog goes indoors to play with his human siblings and gets walked where he can meet other dogs, he also has free room of the yard, not tied up. He is allowed in at night when it is too cold or hot out. Although we wish every dog could live indoors with their families, this dog seems to have it better than most dogs who are forced to live outdoors.

A few weeks ago I was sent a picture of a dog put out on the sidewalk with his dogbed like he was trash. I called my friend Martha and we went and got him in the nick of time. Several police and FDNY were there because the neighbors said the dog was aggressive. Police wouldn't touch him and said they were waiting for a kennel to bring him to ACC, the high kill shelter and was most likely going to be euthanized due to his aggression (a story that we immediately found out the neighbors made up). The dog didn't growl, bark or bite when Martha approached him and was so quiet and sweet. My friend Sue got a foster and we got him to the vet for his vaccinations, and treatment for an eye infection. He had blisters and cuts on his paws which caused him pain when he walked. After about a week he was feeling much better and went to another foster. He's been neutered and ready to be adopted. Foster fail! Remy aka Ollie/Vitali has been adopted and we are so thrilled! Thank you so much to my fearless friend Martha who always helps whenever called, to Sue who always comes through with a foster, to Carrie and family for fostering so we could save him, and Donna and family for fostering and adopting! It takes a village indeed. From being put out on the sidewalk in a neighborhood of people who didn't care, to living his best life, this is rescue💞

Helped out my rescue partner Sue at her adoption event at PetStory in Nassau County yesterday. 1 adoption by a family that I know who originally asked me if I knew a breeder. I quickly told them I don't endorse or support breeders or pet shops and why, only rescues. They came to the event yesterday and fell in love with one of the dogs who was recently rescued. So a win/win for beautiful Yuki, the family and their senior chihuahua🥰Education is the key to saving lives💕

Ollie the we rescued is doing very well at his foster's home. He and his foster sister are so cute together😊His eye infection has cleared up, he had blisters on his paws which have healed nicely, had dermatitis which caused him to lose patches of his fur, but his coat is coming in nicely. He will be neutered soon and be ready for adoption. We are so happy about his progress!

Was told about a dog abandoned in Queens this am with his dog bed. The person told me the police went and got the dog when they called 311. We called the Precinct and they didn't have the dog. Turns out he wasn't picked up by the police. Same person who sent me the dog's pic drove by the location and the dog was still there. Called my friend Martha and we went to get the dog. A group of policemen were just staring at the dog when we got there and said they were waiting for their team with a kennel to take him to ACC, (the kill shelter.) They said the dog had gotten into a fight with a local dog that the owner walked past the dog. A neighbor said the dog had been in the same spot for 2 days and the neighbors wanted him gone. They even threw out his bed so he wouldn't be comfortable and would hopefully leave. The firemen came and the police with the kennel ready to take him and bring him to the death chamber, NOT!! We took him, he wouldn't budge so Martha carried him and we put him in my back seat. Tomorrow he'll go to the vet. He was attacked by a neighborhood dog, has a cut ear and swollen eye. He's young, not neutered, very sweet. Going to the foster tomorrow providing he gets along with her dog. So happy he is safe, we got there just in time...

Thrilled to report that Murphy the dog I dropped off at a firehouse in Queens a few weeks ago is now part of the firefighter family! He gets along well with the dog they rescued a few years ago and the guys decided to keep him. Hmm, a house of men and 2 male dogs, I think a woman's presence is needed there, any volunteers😉Another reason we love our brave and fearless firemen, they have caring hearts😍Too busy to take pics though, so no new photos.

08/11/2022

My rescue partner Sue got Murphy, a sweet dog from his owner who brought him to a kill shelter a few months ago. Murphy is a senior 100 lb mixed breed dog who is good with cats, dogs and people of all ages. Due to his age and size he hasn't had any interested adopters. I brought him to 2 fosters and hopefully now his last foster. Sue knows a fireman at a Queens firehouse that rescued a dog 2 yrs ago and said if Murphy gets along with him, they will adopt him. Hope this trial works, Murphy seems pretty happy already😊
