NAMI Family Support Groups are happening the second Thursday of each month! That THIS THURSDAY!
These groups are for adult loved ones of someone struggling with a mental health condition! This is free!

This week KCMHC was honored to welcome Mel from Project Headspace and Timing for a presentation on working with Veterans, as well as stakeholders in service providers for Veterans and military servicepeople, to discuss barriers and gaps in service for this population. Group therapy and specifically trained clinicians in working Veterans, like EMDR trained clinicians, were identified as needs in our community. We’re thankful for the expertise of Mel & Eric and everyone at Project Headspace and Timing and Karen at the Veterans Assistance Commision for their important work! These stakeholders also informed our council of many excellent resources available to Veterans. Happy Veterans Day and Military Appreciation Month!

We’re so excited to hear from Emily LaVoie for our World Mental Health Day presentation on Friday, October 13th!

Emily LaVoie is a Certified Eating Psychology Coach. She is the owner of a virtual private practice, where she works with clients globally to transform their relationships with food through the evidence-based practices of Health at Every Size and Intuitive Eating.

Emily will be discussing eating disorders - a serious & deadly mental illness. In addition to statistics, Emily will discuss factors that contribute to their development, as well as the connection of eating disorders to other mental health conditions, such as body dysmorphia, anxiety, depression, PTSD, obsessive compulsive disorder, and the connection of eating disorders and socio-economic status. Emily will provide essential evidence regarding the need for more awareness and screening and the prevalence of anti-fat bias in healthcare and the changes needed to provide better treatment to people in all body sizes.
