One year ago, I was sick and tired of being sick and tired. I had been struggling with some digestive issues that really increased after the birth of my daughter. Eventually, it reached a point where it was affecting my daily life. I was ready for a major lifestyle change and was committed to doing whatever it took to make that happen. I didn't have a clue what I was getting myself into, but I sig
When your baby matches your green juice π
Weβve been traveling, traveling, traveling the past few weeks and it finally caught up with us. Mama and baby are both a little under the weather. Thereβs nothing more pathetic than a baby with a cold!
When we were in Las Vegas we had the BEST green juice! It sounded so good, so IοΈ tried to recreate it at home and it was pretty close!
GREEN GINGER LIMEADE:
1/2 c green grapes
1 1/2 c fresh spinach
1/2 tsp fresh grated ginger
Juice of 1 lime
3 oz filtered water
4-5 ice cubes
Blend everything in a blender until smooth. YUM!
Giving my instant pot a workout today and attempting to make bone broth with chicken and kitchen scraps. We will see how it goes!π€π»
I finished my first round of 21 Day Fix since having Sam, and to be honest, I've been putting off weight and measurements because I felt like it didn't make a big difference. I hate to admit that I weighed myself every. single. day. the first 4 days, as if working out twice was going to make some big difference. I think we have been wired to think that you can have significant change in a short amount of time with little to no effort. I'm here to remind you (and myself) there are NO quick fixes. None. It takes hard work and big changes.
The first week or so were not great as far as my eating habits. I went down the junk food rabbit hole after I had Sam (I'm looking at you peanut butter Oreos, Grandma's cookies, and Cheezits). Things that never came into my house were there... a lot... and I had very little self control over how often I was indulging in them! For some reason, breastfeeding gives me an insatiable appetite for junk, specifically sweets! I don't see it going away any time soon, so I'm trying to fill my house with better, healthier options--I'm not here to torture myself! Cutting dairy and eggs temporarily for Sam has also cut out a lot of those j***y foods too (thanks buddy!), so I've been a lot more deliberate in what I put in my body lately.
So here are my 21 Day Fix results (6 weeks postpartum - 9 weeks postpartum):
- 7 lbs
- 4 total inches (2 in my waist!)
I still have 18 more lbs to go and I don't expect to get anywhere close to that any time soon. I'm not one of the lucky ones whose weight just falls off from breastfeeding and that's ok! (Although I'd really like to fit into my pants again π) I'm trusting that my body is doing what it needs to do to feed Sam, so I'm going to do my part to keep it active and healthy too.
I'm trying something new this time called Clean Week to jumpstart some better habits. Although I LOVE my 21DF, I'm a little burnt out on it. I'm excited to try something different AND they are only 30 min workouts! Woo hoo! Shoot me a message if you might be interested in joining me--I love company! π
Hmmm I'd love to try this! I wonder how it tastes?
Sometimes you have to get REALLY creative to get your kids to snack on "healthy" things. My p**p emoji obsessed first grader has been begging me to make these after he saw a video for them online. They are on break this week so we are spending the day making some snacks to last us through the week. They are surprisingly healthy and full of ahem... fiber π©π (Recipe in comments)
Well, I'm officially dairy and egg free for at least the next two weeks! I'd been cutting back for the past week, but wasn't being super strict about it. The past two days I have 100% eliminated both foods. It's a little early to tell since it can stay with you for up to two weeks, BUT Sam has had very little to NO gas since totally eliminating it! He's sleeping/napping better and has been happy and smiling any time he's awake! This has been total confirmation for me that it's worth it to temporarily cut it out of my diet. Plus, it's helping me stay more conscious about what I'm eating too! I think his face says it all π
Last minute meals seem to be the theme around here lately! Turkey taco lettuce wraps were on the menu last night. So easy you can even make them while holding a screaming baby! π
I had mine in butter lettuce and everyone else ate theirs with tortilla chips. We also had some homemade pico de gallo thanks to our huge stash of tomatoes from the garden! Yum!
Another super easy last minute dinner with FROZEN chicken in the instant pot!
Bruschetta Chicken:
Put 3-4 frozen chicken breasts in the instant pot on the removable rack. Pour 1/4 c water in the bottom. Sprinkle garlic powder and Italian seasoning on top. Set for 25 minutes.
While the chicken is cooking, mix together 2 cups diced tomatoes, 3 cloves minced garlic, a handful of chopped fresh basil, 1 tsp evoo and salt and pepper.
If you're a better cook than me, you can reduce a little balsamic in a pan to drizzle on top. But if you end up reducing it too long and end up with balsamic taffy, like I did, just pour straight up balsamic vinegar on top of everything. It was just as delicious! π
I'm sharing this because it was so yummy and BOTH kids actually ate it which is truly a miracle these days! I'm trying to incorporate more dairy free meals to see if that helps Sam's tummy issues--I'm desperate!

Don't exercise while breastfeeding they said... it will dry up your milk they said...
Pretty sure this dude is doing just fine! And for the record... that's a myth.

WEEK 2, DAY 3 β
AND the little guy is STILL sleeping! π―
Now what do I do? Take a shower and risk waking him up? Make my shake and risk waking him up with the blender? Or just bask in the silence? Option 3 please!
This made me laugh! I'm trying to get more comfortable with my Instant Pot but I have this irrational fear of it exploding--like make everyone leave the kitchen while it's cooking fear. It's getting better π
WEEK 2, DAY 2 complete! I haven't missed a single workout, but I'm still struggling a little with food π¬. When I do cook, I try to make a big batch of whatever it is to hold me over a few days. We are still trying to find our groove! Sometimes lunch looks like me eating the leftovers off my kids' plates over the sink before I throw them in, today I'm not doing so bad! π
Now off topic, anyone have tips for helping an extremely gassy baby?? Going on day 2 of non stop fussing. I can tell he's so uncomfortable! We've tried bicycle legs, burping/patting, warm bath, gas drops, baby massage, circular tummy rubs, holding upright after feeding and nothing is helping! I feel so bad for the little guy!
DAY 5 complete! I tried to get this done first thing in the morning but little man had other plans. We had to head to a preschool field trip so I ran out of time. Usually I would just say "oh well I tried" and skip it, but I have big goals this month!! Thing 1 & 2 gifted me with a glorious dual nap this afternoon, so I got to spend some time with my oldest buddy and we got the workout done together! After we were done, J asked if we could do the "dancing one with the guy". Go right ahead! little dude!
It's been pretty quiet over here! Sam is 6 weeks old and is such a little sweet guy! We had a rough start with breastfeeding due to a pretty severe lip and tongue tie as well as the tummy issues that accompany a poor latch. It's improved a lot over the past few weeks and we are slowly getting into a new routine.
The emotional toll of struggling to breastfeed combined with lack of sleep definitely attributed to some very poor food choices on my end! There have been WAY too many treats happening. To be completely honest, my personal health and fitness journey has been more about gaining strength and healing my gut than weight loss, so to have a significant amount of weight to still lose is a little scary! I KNOW it will come off eventually so I'm trying to have realistic expectations.
I started my first round of 21 Day Fix yesterday and I surprisingly had more energy throughout the day without relying as much on coffee. Let's be clear, I'm NOT dieting or even restricting calories. I'm actually adding MORE food, just better quality. My goal is to eat more intentionally rather than mindlessly.
So here's to having Day 2 in the books! I'm definitely more than ready to start feeling a little more like myself again!
We went into L&D yesterday just to have some lab work run and I ended up going into labor while we were there instead! Baby BOY was a little over 3 weeks early but he's doing great. 6lbs 9oz, 19" long. We are so glad he's here!
I thought this posted the other day! I guess I didn't. Baby update: I have one pair of shorts left that still fit (these are them). Between sciatic pain, pelvic separation and an irritable uterus, workouts are a no go for me right now. I never thought I'd struggle walking to the car or even just standing to make dinner! Its full on waddle mode over here! This has been a frustrating ride, and more physically challenging than I ever anticipated, but we are so ready to meet our grand finale baby!
The countdown is on! Anyone have any guesses? Boy or girl?
I'm not gonna lie... my eating habits have fallen waaaay off track recently. I normally enjoy cooking, but these last few weeks of this pregnancy have me doing most of my parenting from the couch. That means, "Kids, go find something in the pantry to eat. Mama's tired." π
Veggies and protein have been hard to get down even though they are something I normally enjoy! This salad looks promising though! But let's be real, I'm definitely going to use a rotisserie chicken π
When you're and it's 115 degrees out and your fat fingers are too big for your wedding rings... ππYou order a jumbo pack of silicone wedding bands off Amazon. π
Day 2 in the books at ! It wasn't pretty. I followed the modifier the whole time. BUT I finished it! For anyone out there who thinks you can't get a good sweat in if you follow the modifications, let me just tell you--you are wrong!!
Throwback photo to almost 2 YEARS ago when I finished my very 1st Beachbody program! I remember messaging a friend, out of sheer desperation because I KNEW I needed to make a major lifestyle change, and I needed help doing it... FAST.
I had reached a point where I was honestly willing to try anything. Stella had just turned one, we had just moved across the country, and I was drowning in "mom duties". My health suffered because I wasn't making myself a priority. I was unhappy with the post-baby body squishiness I still had. My attitude was bad because I was overwhelmed and anxious. To be honest, I was feeling pretty bad for myself.
Fast forward a few months later. I joined a private challenge group, I learned to fill my body with fuel instead of just filling it with whatever my kids left behind, and I committed to working out for 30 minutes a day. Not only did it change my body, but it changed my attitude too. I've never been the "athletic" type, so it was a huge accomplishment for me to finish such a challenging program. My confidence boosted, my energy increased, and I could finally be a more patient mom because I took time for myself too.
If you are looking to make a lifestyle change, and need a little push to do it, please reach out to me. We are starting a free workout group Monday and we still have room for a few more! It's only a week long. You can do it!
Another early am workout in the books thanks to the Arizona sunrise + pregnancy insomnia!
**FREE GROUP ALERT**
I'm joining forces with a dear friend and teammate to kick off summer with a little Shaun T 1-week boot camp! The workouts are NEW so they will be a surprise each day as they get released! Now before you panic, I'm going to be doing these too thanks to the lovely modifiers they include in the workouts! I will not be jumping, deep lunging, or getting down on the floor, and you don't have to either. This is for ALL skill levels! If I can do it, you can too! Follow the link below for more event details! Would love to have you join us!! We start Monday!!

One of our new favorites! We call it "Pizza Experiment Dinner" because it's kind of like a weird science experiment. Just mix a few simple ingredients in a glass jar. Close lid. Come back in 2 hours. BAM. Dinner done!
I'm a TERRIBLE bread maker, but this always comes out perfect! It's so easy, your kids could make it. Whole wheat. No funky ingredients. It's a keeper! Did I mention it makes two HUGE pizzas and will keep in the fridge for up to TWO weeks?! ππ»π
The one benefit of not being able to sleep in past 5am is you can get your workout, shower, and coffee in before your kids wake up! ππ» Note to self: Planking with an extra 20+ lbs around your midsection is NOT easy!!
Bed snacks. Ain't no shame!
Hello third trimester! Had my 28 week appointment today and feeling great! My rapid weight gain has finally tapered off for me, but apparently not for baby. He or she is measuring 5 weeks ahead of schedule!! We will go back in a couple weeks to see if baby's size evens out or if we need to do another ultrasound! Yikes π±
When baby wants dessert and mama has goals. Extra thick superfood "snickers milkshake" to the rescue! ππ»
This is NOT a drill--Kodiak Cake Cinnamon Rolls!! You guys, easiest recipe ever made from REAL, clean ingredients! My 3 year old (aka tiny dictator) requested (demanded) cinnamon rolls for breakfast this morning. I don't normally give into such demands, but they actually sounded pretty good to me too! I went on a search for a cinnamon roll recipe that was really easy--preferably with clean ingredients. I found exactly what I was looking for on the Kodiak Cakes blog and they did not disappoint. You can whip these up in about 10 minutes using their pancake mix! I doubled the recipe and the whole pan (not that I would suggest eating them all, even though you'll want to) contains 48 GRAMS of protein! Whoa! This just changed our weekend breakfast game!

One habit I just can't completely kick is the coffee creamer. I don't use nearly as much as I used to, but I just can't drink my coffee black! My favorite creamer alternative is coffee + 1 tsp coconut oil + 1 tsp grass fed butter + 1 tsp pure maple syrup + dash of cinnamon. Mix in a blender and pour into your favorite cup! Yum!!
Does anyone else reward themselves for doing something they should do, but really don't want to? Or is it just me? I really didn't feel like doing a workout this morning, but I had already gone way too many days without one--Not to mention all the extra birthday treats that were consumed this weekend! I never regret it once I'm done, but pushing play is really a struggle these days! I told myself if I did it, I could go to the craft store afterwards to finish up a diy project I've been dying to finish! It worked! Workout complete. Snacks packed for myself and kids. Now wish me luck as I drag my two hooligans through the craft store this afternoon! Finished project photos coming soon!
