Paradigm Shift – An Alternative Concept to Studying, herein referred to as Ps’t, is a unique study seminar that provides some methods to improve your study session and motivate you to study. The Mental Aspect has a subdivision on Efficient Notes. The Physical Aspect has a subdivision on Nutrition. There is also a small section on the Do’s and Don’ts of Exams. Included in the seminar are testimonia

ls from students who have attended past Ps’t Seminars. The seminar is between 2.5 - 3 hours long (with a 10 minute break with a snack). The basic outline of Ps’t is

- Mental Component
- Efficient Note Taking
• Physical Aspect
- Nutrition
- Physical Component
• Exams

A date, time, venue and cost for the next Ps’t Seminar has not been finalized as yet.

History:

Rajesh Lakhan is currently teaches at the University of the West Indies, St. He holds a BSc. in Economics and Mathematics, as well as a MSc. in Mathematics, both of which were acquired at the aforementioned university. He lectured and tutored courses in Mathematics for the Department of Economics and the Department of Mathematics and Statistics. While lecturing a Year One Mathematics course at the University in 2008, the students complained that they were not getting enough time “to do the work” that Rajesh was assigning to them. He decided to share some of his personal study methods with them. This “presentation” lasted a short 20 minutes. The students were very interested and asked for more tips, so he compiled all of the methods that he had been using since pre-tertiary level studies and made a 2-hour presentation to students and friends the following semester (Semester 1, 2008/2009). Since then he has made presentations every semester, sometimes more than once for the semester, free of charge to all interested students. He has made more than 16 presentations thus far, positively impacting the lives of more than 1600 students and counting. It must be noted that the methods developed were researched and are supported medically. Rajesh has consulted with various experts in relevant fields (Nutrition, Pharmacy, Yoga, etc) to ensure that the methods being presented are sound as well as practical. Attending Ps’t now costs a small fee due to the increase in overhead expenditure as the seminar has expanded over the years. Paradigm Shift has evolved from a 20 minute presentation to a full 3-hour interactive session over the years.

Most people, upon hearing about a study seminar for 3 hours, cringe at the idea. They try to run and excuses after excuses are thrown out. The famous “My dog ate my homework!” even comes out (How that is even relevant?!), but once they have attended the seminar (after much convincing) they are totally delighted and thankful they attended. The time flies because the atmosphere created in the seminar is a very light, easy going and relaxed one, just the right atmosphere for constructive learning.
