All week long, some friends and I are sharing stories of gratitude to prepare our hearts and minds for the upcoming season! Today I am grateful for my messy house. Yes, you read that right. My messy house. Some may think that’s crazy, but here’s my why. The most obvious place to start is that I have a house, a home. Even if it’s currently messy, it’s ours. A home. A place that’s safe and our happy place. It’s not the biggest, or the nicest, the latest or greatest, but it’s a home. The walls are filled with memories, so much love, and laughter, sharing our hopes and dreams. It’s messy yes, but it’s messy because we have stuff. An abundance of stuff sometimes! Messy because I have an adorable 4 year old who loves to play. There was a lot of years I never thought I would be blessed with getting pregnant. And at 41, God answered that prayer. So I’m grateful, so grateful, that there’s toys to pick up out of my floor, dinosaurs and legos and tractors in almost every room. There’s laundry piled up. But that means I have a family to do laundry for, that we have clothes to wear and a way to clean them. It means it’s piled up because we both have jobs and are busy, but we have a way to provide for our family. The bed’s not made because I was running late this morning, but I have a bed. It’s cozy and it provides me rest. The floor is filled with Christmas totes because I have been too busy to decorate and clear them out. But that means I have decorations and a way to make my home feel cozy and filled with cheer for the holidays. Maybe too much stuff some would say. Lol. I have a home, a home I share with my adoring husband, my bonus kids, Evan, and two crazy cats. So today, I’m reminding myself I’m grateful for my messy home because without it, life would sure look different. It’s all about perspective. I hope you’re able to pause and find the joy in the chaos and the mess, to find the blessings amongst the mess.

When the light hits just right, you capture it. I switched out my sunflowers on my bowl in my table. It was time for the pumpkins! I added more leaves, pumpkins, an acorn, and some pears. I love these colors and how cozy they feel. It may sound crazy, but don’t you agree that decor can evoke a feeling? When I look at this view, I feel warmth and the coziness of fall for sure.
