Playful Matters
K-6 classroom teacher inspired by the Reggio Emilia Approach, encouraging independence, creativity and play!

Amie holds a certificate of Montessori Training for ages 2 – 6 and is
👏🏽Well done government of Western Australia, for remembering the little things👏🏽
Very cute Easter craft!
Got to start getting creative with what’s available at the supermarket and what’s left in my pantry. I used flour and oats to make these Blueberry Muffins. I also made a zucchini slice. Of course, these are only if you can get eggs! 5 eggs into the zucchini slice but rice flour to help give it structure and 2 eggs to make muffins. Lastly, I grabbed a loaf, buttered up all the slices, stuck ham and cheese in there. Repacked into the bag and stored in the freezer ready for toasties or sandwiches.
Basically that’s breakfast, lunch and snacks done for two days!
Let’s see what I can forage for tomorrow!
Having some St. Patrick’s Day fun in my Science classes today!
Join us with some Bicarbonate of Soda, green coloured vinegar and a plastic bag. We’re going to discover how many tablespoons it takes to explode the bag!
How will you conduct this experiment today?

Getting ready to start my new position in a new school, in a new town! Very excited to be back where my career first started! I love this Teacher Planner Sticker Book from and I can’t wait to use them in my
What is clear is that Loris Malaguzzi had a passion for a better world and he knew that a better world exists within the imagination of a child.
Azar Nafisi said “You need imagination in order to imagine a future that doesn’t exist”. The Reggio Emilia approach came out of a dark time in history by a man who knew what it was like to have your childhood stolen. It is this passion for the sacredness of childhood that I share. Let kids be kids, inspire their sense of wonder, let them figure things out or soar with their imagination and discover something new!
“To imagine is everything, to know is nothing at all” Anatole France
What inspired me in Reggio Emilia at the International Loris Malaguzzi Centre #1: Teacher as researcher. To actively look for more knowledge, in yourself as well as what the children are bringing to the process. Rediscovering what learning is. Rediscovering what teaching is.
Feeling passionate about your own practice. Being inspired by the children in the moment, being inspired by being present.
Playful Matters went walking today up Conic Hill in Scotland! Met lots of families along the way with young children so a very doable walk with a little bit of preparation.
The boys enjoying some wonderful playground equipment at Piersland Park. Great range to cover children of all ages. The boys were very happy with everything that was available.
Playful Matters is in Glasgow! Today we visited the Riverside Museum which is free entry! The kids enjoyed the displays. Everything was interactive, interesting and informative. Definitely recommend for families with children of all ages.
Wishing everyone a safe and happy Easter!
Using the furniture that we have to create a calm and cosy reading corner.
The kids are loving having a play dough station in the classroom! Mr Macca resized this table and it fits beautifully in our kitchen area!
Week 1 complete! I can’t say that the classroom was finished before we started the year, in fact, I decided that the classroom was ‘good enough’ for the kids to come into and breathe their own life into it. Over this year I will share how we transform our classroom into a wonderful learning space, where children feel safe to take risks in their learning. To make mistakes. To feel a sense of accomplishment where they are at, to be curious and to love learning!
I live and work in amazing country where culture feels strong and present. We are in build up season Lalin in Bardi but soon we’ll move into wet season Mankal in Bardi. This gorgeous seasonal wheel of the land I work upon is also known as a phenology wheel I love that it shows the flora and fauna of the local area for every season.
Thermomix Chocolate Chip Cookie dough bliss balls. Part of my prep for the school week ahead. Easy recipe: 1 cup each of dates, sultanas, desiccated coconut and rolled oats. Blitz 30 seconds, speed 7. Then add 1 Tablespoon coconut oil and choc chops. Blitz 5 seconds, speed 5. Refrigerate. Yum!
These awesome kids unfortunately have a lot of trauma in their lives. I have come to discover that kinetic sand has been an amazing calm down, sensory tool in the classroom.
My office window today 💕
Kidgredients comes to the rescue again with some more fantastic lunch ideas. You just have to check out their other resources! There’s a fantastic lunch box download on their site too, filled with really easy and yummy lunches.
I loved this poster when I first saw it shared by another page but how lovely that Bookoola Ink has personally popped in and asked if we could share it too 😊
Before starting our construction unit the children showed what they knew about planning from a birds eye view.
Love love love using this resource with the light table. The older group (aged 7-8) love making their names using lots of different materials but first week back brain forgot to do a new batch of play dough, oops!!
Watching my gorgeous big kids doing their Confirmation today whilst sitting with my little peeps. I couldn’t help notice just how textual this 100 year old church is. And of course my sensory kids couldn’t help but experience the church through their fingertips either!
I might be tired but I’m still passionate, just like the beautiful kids I teach!
It’s the last day of an 11 week term and I don’t think I’m the only teacher around feeling the need to refresh and revive for the next two weeks!
Passionately Curious
For me, it is very interesting that Albert Einstein acknowledged curiosity as the underpinning for the life of exploration he lived. Every child is BORN passionately curious, and it is up to us as parents and teachers to see that we water and nourish that curiosity. Curiosity is the one special talent that works like a compass leading to a fulfilled and interesting life.
😳 There are so many quality FDCs, early learning centres and kindergartens that respect the value of learning through play. Let’s support them and congratulate them for fighting the good fight!
If you know or use a quality service/centre comment below so we can cheer them on!
This year we have the opportunity to get our school garden up and going. This will look great on a couple of pallet pieces!
It has been a great start to the year at T.T.K and already all our kindy friends are settling in and exploring our fabulous indoor and outdoor environments.
So many wonderful ideas here 💕
2017 was a year of change for me and my family. I am excited going into 2018! This year I’m going to EMBRACE the challenge of working and living in a remote Aboriginal Community. EMBRACE being a full time working mum of four kids. EMBRACE each and every day and seize the opportunities for growth that are given. My instagram represents my passion for play, creativity, fun, friends, teaching and learning. Add family, travel, love and a pinch of sparkle and you’ve got everything I hope for in 2018! Let the adventure begin!
Wonderful tips for parents to encourage their little readers (works for big ones too!).
