Witt #COP28 starting tomorrow in Dubai, in the #uae, here is our #LossAndDamage expectations video on 7 things that #COP28UAE must deliver to stand in solidarity with those on the frontlines of the #climatecrisis on Loss And Damage. These are: 1. The Loss And Damage Fund must be set up so it can get to work sending money to countries and communities on the frontlines of the Climate Crisis so that they can recover and rebuild following a Climate Disaster. 2. The first #GlobalStocktake of the #ParisAgreement must include Loss and Damage as a separate issue with a plan of how to deal with it. The Global Stocktake must recognise that #ClimateAction is way off track! We need a road map to scale up Climate Action on all fronts! 3. The rich countries that are most responsible for the Climate Crisis must pay their fair share into the Loss And Damage Fund. At least $400 billion (USD) a year will be needed to meet the projected Loss and Damage cost. It's time to fill the Fund! 4. The host for the #santiagonetwork for Loss and Damage (SNLD) must be agreed, an Advisory Board appointed and money delivered so it can get to work providing technical assistance with @UNFCCC as its interim host. 5. Fossil fuel companies and other polluting industries must pay into the #LossAndDamage Fund. It's time to #MakePollutersPay for the #LossAndDamage they have caused! Alternative sources such as a #ClimateDamages tax are needed to reach $400bn (USD) a year! 6. The New Collective Quantified Goal on #ClimateFinance (#NCQG) must start talking about a sub-goal for #LossAndDamage finance. This #LossAndDamage sub-goal must be at least $400bn (USD) a year! 7. To avoid as much future #LossAndDamage as possible, we need ambitious #mitigation and #adaptation action. #COP28 must keep 1.5°C alive and work towards a rapid and fair phase-out of #fossilfuels!
