'ADDING VALUE TO OTHERS IS SELF INVESTMENT'

Adding value to someone has been identified as the easiest way to all round upliftment and success; and, as a people, it increases our level and attainment in life.

Peter Udoessien (Min.) stated this earlier today while admonishing Christians at The Church of Christ, 144 Aka Road in Uyo, the Akwa Ibom State capital.

Speaking on the topic: Adding Value to Someone and drawing his text from The Book of Acts of the Apostle, chapter 20, verse 35, the man of God said that adding value to people is an investment for believers and that it is a way of maintaining the name 'Christian'. He said that anyone that doesn't add value to others has automatically closed the door of his success.

According to him, adding value to people is a magical key to success; that anyone that takes delight in giving back to people and touching lives shall not lack. For him, the act is a way of maintaining the golden rule: what ever you want others to do for you, do same to them. He also added that giving to people is one of the good works Christ called us to do.

The Minister maintained that when you add value to people, God will surely add value to you. 'You will acquire additional name for yourself while on earth and people will know you as a giver. Adding value to people upgrades you and uplifts you to greater heights.' He said.

He therefore encouraged Christians to add value to others by speaking positive words: through advice and encouragement and by visiting people to know about their welfare. According to him, these 'little' things could heal the sick; strengthen the weak and inspire the disheartened ones.

He also pleaded: for the sake of the gospel; truth and the Church, that believers should use their wealth to add value to others and that loving the people in tongue without showing in deed and in love makes them unbelievers.

He mentioned some of the people to add value to, including the windows, sick, physically challenged people, orphans, prisoners, etc.

'If you have someone (your servant) that has worked for you for many years, please settle and add value to him. Don't continue to keep him as a servant. Bless him to be a blessing to others too. By doing so, you are opening the doors of blessings for yourself and your generation.' Udoessien said.

Following the recently conducted University of Uyo Alumni Association's election where the immediate past Speaker of the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly; and the Member representing the good people of Etinan/Nsit Ibom/Nsit Ubium Federal Constituency in the House of Representative, Rt. Hon. (Bar) Onofiok Luke emerged as The National President, preparations are in top gear by Hon. Luke and his Executive members to set an unbeaten standard for the Association.

Briefing newsmen shortly after the election and his inauguration, Hon. Luke who thanked members of the Association for a peaceful conduct during the election, promised that his administration as the National President of the Association will focus on purposeful reconciliation and inclusive governance; calling on all hands to be on deck so that the Association can give back to the university; and society in general.

On the growth of the body, the newly elected National President promised to work towards the expansion of chapters and therefore urged members to use their strong network to create chapters in every part of the world. He also stated that he will connect back with all the international students of the Association who graduated from UNIUYO years back.

For strategic documentation of the data of all the graduates of the university of Uyo, the National President, Hon. Luke promised to give the association a portal through the office of the Public Relations Officer (PRO) headed by Comr. Ini Ememobong, the Akwa Ibom State Publicity Secretary of The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). He said the portal will have the database of all the graduates of the university with years of graduation; and every other online/Internet transaction of the Association, including working on an e-voting system for the body where members can participate in an election process from any part of the world.

To achieve his e-voting system goal, Hon. Luke plans to revisit the Association's constitution where that will be included.

He also promised to partner with the university of Uyo and other institutions in Nigeria to effect positive changes and development of human capacity among students and graduates of The University of Uyo to achieve higher level of academic growth.

The election was witnessed by the pioneer National President of the body and the Senior Manager, Security External Relations of ExxonMobil, Mr Ide Owodiong-Idemeko; the immediate past president, Prof. Gabriel Umoh, among others.

"That's why, as an Alumni, we say that University of Uyo is a brand; everyone should protect it. We value that brand; we hold on to it dearly; and we don't want anything to tarnish that image.
As Alumni, we're gathering on Friday, 31st January, at 11 am; so we're inviting every alumnus of that institution to come out and contribute to the way forward for that university. We can build structures; we can provide books for those younger ones who are there. We can provide scholarship for those indigent students. You know times are hard and most of the brilliant students do not have parents who can fund them.
