movement practices help us develop a relationship of reciprocity with our environment. taking time to explore and play helps us develop a deeper sense of self, but we do so by learning how to communicate clearly, open ourselves to external support and offer our creativity in return.

We develop the image of who we are through this lens of relationship.

I am most aware of my skin when it is being touched.

I push against a wall to feel it push back.

We get to know ourselves through an endless loop of expansion and contraction. observing, finding our feet, stepping forward - reaching out to make contact, and then coiling back into the process.

Every pulse an opportunity to learn and grow.

Every movement a metaphor for how you want to show up and participate.

Sometimes we look out to find acceptance and support, other times we’re met with confusion.

But with every tough blow we learn how to bounce back…

Join me online for an hour or exploratory movement, breath play and other practices for a life well lived.

I’ve been putting a lot of thought into how I want to show up for this next round of seasons. How I want to balance participating in the world with keeping my peace. And how much I truly want to thrive in this stage of life.

Building a new home in a city I grew up in has been an interesting experiment. Of all the places I’ve lived, this is the first time I’ve ever moved back. The streets are all familiar, but the landscape is not the same.

More importantly - neither am I.

Im trying to give myself a lot of grace to find new ways of existing within these familiar spaces, so that I can build a life and home that comforts and supports the me that I’ve become.

In a way it reminds me of learning to move again after injury, when your body remembers where you’ve been but no longer knows how to get there. It sometimes takes a minute to realize that there are so many other ways to move, paths to walk and places to go. You don’t have to settle for going to back to the way things were. You are not bound to any of your past lives, their views or the ideas of you that live in someone else’s head.

It’s spring. Earth said we get to be brand new. 🐣

On another note - I just added a free 25ish minute movement and breath practice for transitioning into Spring to my website. You can access it through the link in my bio. If you already subscribe to my mailing list, check your inbox.

For those of you looking for a full class, join me on Zoom at 6 pm ET today. If you can’t make it, you can sign up to receive access to the recording.

Happy Spring 🌷🐝

On retreat, I taught my first in person group class since the before times.

It felt a lot like remembering.

When you’re in the room with someone there’s this tangible energy shift as what you’re putting out lands in the way you intended. You can tell your people are getting what they need.

You can sense when it’s time to change paths.

Your message as a teacher becomes an open dialogue with your students.

Teaching online requires you to trust yourself in a different way. To believe so fully in what you’re saying that you can speak with conviction to an empty room. It asks that you hold space for someone without knowing if they’re ever present.

You just keep going as if they’re right there in front of you.

I’ve experienced countless moments of frustration in this process and have, at times, felt like giving it all up. I almost forgot my whys.

But then somewhere in the room I hear an exhale, and I remember.

I remember why I offer my voice and hands as guidance, my breath and feet as support. I remember that I need them as much as they need me.

I also remember how many faces I first connected with through a little screen. How, despite some obstacles, we managed to create something meaningful on the internet.

And I realize I am really grateful for both experiences. For the times when we’re together, and the ability to connect from afar.

All that’s to say - I have decided to bring back weekly Zoom classes.

We’ll see how it goes.

Join me in person or sign up to receive access to the recording. All times are in EST. I believe in your ability to find what time that is for you. All classes, except Tuesday morning, will be an hour mix of active Hatha flow, mobility/stability work, restorative and breath exercises. Tuesday morning is basically a half hour yawn.

Sunday 6 pm
Tuesday 9 am (30 min breath class)
Thursday 8 pm
Saturday 11 am

When I can’t find the words, I let my body speak.

With every turn of my hips I process the Pain, the Rage and the Grief.

In each tap of a toe, I say a prayer.

I swing out my arms to celebrate love.

Spells are cast with every flick of my wrists.

I allow myself be consumed.

I speed up and whip around. My body cries out in agony and exaltation.

Spinning out in order to find my feet again.

To remember what it is to be raw.

I slow down. I soften. I call out to the wind.

It tells me to lay my burden down. Even if just for a moment.

I fall into the earth. I ask to be held.

I am received.

Will my dance heal the hurt?

Will it stop men from waging wars or bring hope back into weary hearts?

I don’t know.. maybe if this whole god-forsaken world dances with me.

It’s hard to hard to hold a grudge (or a gun) while you’re twirling. 🖤

Todos Santos, 2019.

This was such a special group.

I’m so excited that a few of them will be reuniting with me at next February.

Sometimes I doubt myself and the purpose of my work, and then people come back.

I am reminded of the time we spent together and how, even just for a week, I got to be a catalyst for change in their life.

I can’t really put into words what it feels like when someone chooses to spend their time with me, trusts in me, and allows themselves to be open.

It’s an honor, really. Thank you.

If you’ve been on a retreat experience with me, I’d love to hear from you. Share a memory in the comments, please :)

If you’re curious about what a retreat week is like, ask away.

If none of this applies to you…

as you were. ✌🏼🖤🌴
