CDKC Round 7 Heat 1.
Due to lack of entries in the medium weight class we decided to try our luck at running in the lights. Had a few good starts but not enough race pace to keep the light drivers behind. Onto state titles in just over a month.

NSW State Titles - Final Round September 2018

Qualified 7th
Heat 1 3rd
Heat 2 3rd
Heat 3 4th
FINAL 3rd

First race in the new (2016 model) chassis & every time we went out the kart got better.

Opening laps were comparitivly good, getting the track position needed to get a podium result.
Running second for 12 laps in the final and making passes on the 2018 champion and 2nd place overall driver (before losing 2nd to the 2018 champion with 7 laps to go) was awesome fun.

A great result at this level of competition.

Can't thank you enough Dad.

For once this year we decided to practise the day before the race meeting. With the aim of trying to find the pace we have been missing throughout the year. We went out in our first practise session and did a total of one and a half laps before burying the kart in the gravel trap [quite literally.]. Having turned the kart upside down on the side of the track to get rid of the dirt and gravel while waiting for Dad. After bringing the kart back into the pits we found out one of the bottom seat mounts had snapped, causing our incident prior. To add too our troubles the engine would not start. However we decided to fix one problem at a time. A massive thank you to Russell Becker and Corey, without whom the chassis wouldn't have been repaired in time for the race the next day.

After arriving back at the track we got on to figuring out why the engine wouldn't start. We tried and tested a variety of possible causes and solutions to find out why[special thanks to Jeff Buchan for lending us a coil to test that the coils weren’t going bad.] However we eventually found out that our engine was in fact Dead and we had no way of competing the next day[ losing the championship lead.] Thankfully we owe a massive thank you to Troy Debono For lending us their spare engine for the Last round. Which without we wouldn’t have had anyway to compete for the championship. Sunday morning would be a different story to the day prior. After hurrying to get the engine on the kart we went out for qualifying, also trying some setup changes which ultimately gained some time.

Heat 1: For heat 1 we dramatically changed the setup [continuing on what we were doing in qualifying] making up almost all the time we were looking for. We made our way into 1st position after the first corner, however some inconsistency by me and the vast change in kart behaviour which we weren’t used to meant we got passed back again and ended in 2nd place.

Heat 2: Our start for heat 2 was strong, initially we got past 2nd place again, only to have a slower kart in front [from a faster class] get in the way , moving us down to 2nd. However before the second lap we took the place back and finished in 1st place.

Heat 3:By Heat 3 we had become more consistent. Yet again we got to 1st by the first corner and stuck right on the back of the Ka3 Lights [a faster category] for the first couple of laps.Managing the gap back to second for the rest of the race.

Final: Our starts over the day were very strong and the final was no exception. We started from 1st and caught right up to the back of the lights. keeping close for a couple of laps before edging out the gap slightly. We Had a gap over 2nd place at this stage and managed the gap for the entirety of the race.

A good weekend That started out quite the opposite. Without the help of everyone listed we would simply not have been able to compete, nor won the championship. So A HUGE thank you to everyone who helped us throughout the weekend. Lets hope we continue this pace into 2018

North Shore Kart Club
Metro Cup Invitational
Quali: 4th
Heat 1: 4th
Heat 2: DNF
Heat 3: 2nd
FINAL: DNF

Heat 1: Didn't have the speed to keep up with the front pack, finishing close behind 3rd with a gap of 0.087 at the finish line.
Heat 2: Sunday was mainly wet weather for us going from 4th to 2nd with the fastest lap and catching the leader. The wet conditions changed the course of the weekend for us and we were really happy with the pace we had. We felt really comfortable in the wet and showed that we had speed. Unfortunately on the 2nd last lap the kingpin for the steering fell out meaning we didn't finish the race.
Heat 3: Heat 3 brought especially tricky conditions. Our kart setup was all wrong for the rain due to the rain falling just before going out on track. The rain was especially heavy and had trouble seeing in front. This combined with bad setup choices led to a particularly tricky race. However we made up spots from 4th to 2nd and did the fastest lap on the last lap of the race due to tyre pressures being way too low.
Final: The Final race was back to dry conditions. We started off 2nd position and had 1st by the first corner. The kart was a handful to drive and we lost the speed we had earlier in the day. We dropped back from 1st to 4th in a number of laps before the engine randomly stopped, meaning we received a DNF.

Really fun weekend for the metro cup at north shore kart club. Never raced at the track before or drove the kart in the rain which proved to be a fun experience. Didn’t have the pace to keep up in the dry but in the wet conditions we had strong pace with fastest laps and felt really comfortable in the wet conditions.
[Video below is the closing laps of heat 2, before the kingpin fell out.]

Up and down weekend at picton for the last round of state titles. Was the first time in 2 years we had been at the track and first time in the new kart. Made up time consistently over the weekend and had good race pace.

Heat 1:DNF. Heat 1 was running well until on the last lap when the front sprocket shredded itself and meant i couldnt finish.

Heat 2:DNF. Heat 2 was moving forward positions to try and make up for the DNF prior. Had a look up the inside of another driver and he turned in on me resulting in contact which dropped the chain, ending my race.

Heat 3:11th/DNF. Drove from last on the grid to 9th and right behind 8th place when on the second last lap the flag marshall waved the checkered flag at us early which made me come in, thinking that the race was over. Nothing we could do [even go pro footage showing the mistake.] would make the results change. Plus a 2 place grid penalty for crossing a white line on lap 2.

Final:9th, Starting 13th on the grid due to the penalty and flag marshall error earlier we made up 4 places on the first 2 laps and was right on the back of the next group of karts [4th-8th] when i went to deep under brakes down at the bottom hairpin corner and almost spun trying to avoid hitting the kart infront. Leaving me in last place with 2nd last the distance of the strait ahead. Spent the rest of the race catching and passing the 2 drivers infront, however the group ahead was to far infront to be able to catch them.

Overall the weekend went quite well, showed we had pace, but some unlucky moments which meant the results turned out differently. Made some changes over the weekend which should help. All in all a good weekends racing.

Club Championship Round 6
Quali: 2nd
Heat 1: 2nd
Heat 2 1st
Heat 3 1st
FINAL: 1st.

Kart felt really good all weekend. Improved and changed how i was driving the kart and made up some time. Kart felt particularly good on the opening laps compared to everyone else, meaning i could keep up with the tail end of the lights for a couple laps. Setup is nearly there, definitely in the window now just some small changes in the kart and me and we should be right on the money timewise.

Awesome day of racing despite having troubles throughout the day. (Dead Battery before the racing started & Carby issues all day). Made a few changes to the setup and it looks like our chassis setup is nearly there!

Big thanks to everyone who helped out with the problems we were having as we wouldn't have got as far as we did without help.
Thanks to the Buchans, Troy Debono, Ian Stones & Trent Webb,
Good fun, great day & good to be out racing.
