Fall Vibes 🍂
Our Story
The Shop - The Ballog supports local, independent and socially conscious artisans. We curate tasteful and beautiful products that meet one or all of these criteria. We also understand the importance of knowing our brands, and we have strong relationships with the artists and vendors that we carry. We believe in community and love hosting events and experiences. Don't be surprised to stop in to find live music, a Q+A with a regional author, or a traveling art exhibit. We can't wait to meet you!
The Name - Our grandmother was the daughter of an immigrant family from Eastern Europe and lived in Gary, Indiana outside of Chicago. The wife of a steel worker, she lived a humble life, however, we found an abundance of love, encouragement, optimism and creativity in their home. She would not allow the television to be on when we visited. Instead, she always taught us something new - painting, baking, fishing, how to polka. She was an amazing artist and created beautiful paintings but she did not pick up a paintbrush until she was 40 years old. She was still teaching painting lessons to women in her community center up until she passed away in 2013 at the age of 94. She was a major inspiration to us all. Her legacy: you can create under any circumstances, and it's never too late to start. Her name was Mary Ballog {Bal-log}.
The Team - We are a mother-daughter owned and operated business. Kathy and her daughters launched the shop in 2015. Kathy is the owner and has a long history of retail merchandising and creating experiences. Kelsey is the creative director and buyer for the store. She is also a seasoned photographer - you can find prints from her travels and her life in Serenbe in the shop. Lindsay manages events and marketing.
The Backstory - Before the shop opened, sisters Kelsey and Lindsay had a successful run with their lifestyle and culture blog, You’ve Been Noted. Highlighting the work and vision of creatives, movers and shakers in Atlanta, YBN provided a platform to showcase the city’s hidden talent and rising stars. We took that mission one step further by introducing The Ballog Night Market – an event to bring artists together and showcase their works. The seasonal market evolved into a pop-up shop in Serenbe. And thanks to the overwhelming response from both the customers and artisans, we decided to make The Ballog a mainstay in the community.
