You know how some of the things get more witchy when I touch them (used here to mean more full of wonder)? I live outside of the area of totality but was able to shoot this moment after the eclipse through the car rooftop. The photo is unedited. Just what the tinted glass did.

The year of romantic getaways has begun! My handsome husband and I are going on a series of trips to celebrate our 30th anniversary. First one up: Savannah. We walked 7 miles a day holding hands, drinking coffee, swooning over beautiful trees heavily draped in Spanish moss, and giggling. So much giggling! Fantastic Airbnb. Have been before and look forward to coming again. ๐Ÿ’•โค๏ธ๐Ÿ’•

Mezze dinner party last night! Add my handsome husband's homemade sourdough, wine, and lots of laughter. The stands outs were Feta Dip (I modified with sour cream and mint), my homemade labneh with preserved lemon, homemade crackers, and my harissa roasted eggplant with maple tahini drizzle and blistered tomatoes on the vine. Free pouring olive oil makes everything taste better. Fun to feast with friends!

Thank you to all my non-Jewish friends posting Happy Hanukkah on social media, and DM'ing and texting me. I see you. I appreciate the solidarity and allyship, especially in the face of the surge of antisemitism in America. Even more important than me seeing your support, thank you for doing so publicly so that other non-Jews also see you. Continue to be brave. Antisemitism has no place here. Let your light shine.

Whatโ€™s an Ema?

Hello lovelies! Ema is Hebrew for mom. My food blog, dowhatemasays.com is filled with global recipes focusing on Mediterranean and Middle Eastern spices that come from my home, my travels and my tradition. As an Ema it has always been vital to me that my home, and my food, make my guests feel safe and adored. When I worked in hotels, restaurants and resorts I tried to extend that homey, warm feeling to everyone I met in my workplace, too. I designed to do more than count how many turns we did or how many covers we served - I created spaces where the food excited the palate and encouraged people to explore new cuisines, and, even more importantly, I wanted to do it in a way that associated global flavors with kindness across cultures. Now with my Facebook, Instagram and Website I hope to bring all that goodness, those healthy soups, stews, roasted veggies, fresh breads, spreads and hearty grains all served up family-style with touches of this mommaโ€™s love and encouragement.

Bring bold flavors, welcome every guest, heap on the hugs and be kind to yourselves. Do What Ema Says.
