Get after those goals! 💪🏽
I am feeling super proud of myself and my journey.
This comes after a year of injury that has been frustrated and restricting, connected with 10 years of not being able to solve a reoccurring issue with my leg.
And in this photo we have a tilt jump that I couldn’t have done 3 months again because 2nd position started to be a real problem. A jump that there’s no way I could have done a year ago because I just didn’t have the technique.
It’s taken literally years to work up to this move and getting my body to a place where it can do it.
But surrounding yourself with knowledgeable and supportive professionals, investing in your own health and development make all the difference.
And of course, showing up consistently and putting in the work 😉
I could not have done this without my PT trainer Xavi who is constantly challenging me in all the right ways and has really taken a vested interest in my recovery.
I’ve been seeing my Quiromasajista who’s been a guiding support providing much relief and insight as I worked through this over the past year.
I’ve been training with the amazing .0 who’s kept my injury in mind while helping me continue to evolve over the past 2 years. Can’t say enough positive things about this amazing person. ❤️
I’m thankful to the team around me that has helped recover but also grow and evolve. ❤️

😜Let’s pull back the curtain on the making of Gafsa
This sure was a journey that pushed me to the limits!💪🏽 And if you haven’t seen the full video go check it out in my profile!
This was, without a doubt, the most challenging video shoot I’ve ever done. The choreography was demanding, and we had to run through it so many times, not to mention the two costume changes! By the time we got to the second costume, my hair was basically screaming for mercy.😅
But guess what? It was all worth it! The video turned out fantastic, and I’m so proud of the end result❤️Thank you all for watching and for being part of this incredible journey
On video shoot days, I always remind myself to have fun and enjoy the moment. Coffee is a must, – I need all the chemical stimulation I can get! 😌☕ I’ve learned to take more breaks within the breaks themselves, allowing myself to calm down instead of rushing through.
I’m a bit of a perfectionist, so I tend to stress out, wanting everything to be just right. But I’ve also learned to embrace the errors I perceive. Sometimes those small mistakes end up creating the most beautiful takes. It’s all about what we do in response to those imperfections.
This video shoot was the culmination of all my hard work on Gafsa. I performed it live, and now, I performed it for this shoot, and I actually haven’t performed it since. It’s amazing how the power of videography can take the essence of a performance and amplify it. The duality of the costume, the lighting, and the editing brought my vision to life in ways that an in-person performance couldn’t.

Ava Fleming was a very important part of my dance experience ❤
This is from the first BIG performance and DVD shoot that I had as a member of Black Open Dance Company way back in the day. I think this was honestly almost 20 years ago. It was a live show produced by IAMED, who producing many of the performance and instructional DVDs and VHS back in the day. And we did a drum solo with zills to this very song. Harry Saroyan was in the audience and give us some kind words on our performance 😊 (sorry about the low res video 😅 I guess we were shooting in 4K 😆)
This is just one of the many experiences I had with her that molded and shaped the way I saw the dance industry, my professional work, and parts of my personal life. I always admired her technical proficiency, her engaging presence on stage, and shared so many important and lasting moments with her.
I’m truly sad to hear about her passing this last week. Her imprint on me will be everlasting. ❤

THE LIE DETECTOR SAID THAT WAS A LIE 😂
Let me take you behind the scenes of the incredible journey that brought "Gafsa" to life. Kayli and I shared quite a few laughs and inside jokes along the way. Whenever things weren't going so great and she would still be so supportive and encouraging, I would turn around and say and playfully say, "The lie detector said that was a lie" 😆
🌟She was one of the amazing contributors to this project, spending many hours with me 1-on-1 coaching and creating the choreography 🙌🏽 She's a powerhouse in multiple dance styles, and her coaching and support were beyond invaluable ❤
From contemporary to lyrical to classical technique, Kayli was there with her vast knowledge, pushing me to give my absolute best and making sure every move was on point. It made the difference in whether or not this fusion piece turned out a success 💪🏽
It's a reminder that having a support system and seeking feedback from professionals is crucial, especially when you're exploring new horizons. Working with peers and colleagues is a tremendous asset, and having a coach in your corner can do wonders for your growth even if you're already a pro 😉🙏🏽
