Two Cornell University students have created a smart glove called “BrailleWear.” This glove aims to improve accessibility and increase braille literacy rates! With a camera located between the thumb and index fingers, it can track the movement of tracing braille. It then translates that and reads aloud the braille that was just traced.

Unpacking the debate over person-first vs. identity-first language in the autism community How do we define ourselves? Other people? For all of us, this is a fraught subject. But for those who have or who study autism, it’s even trickier.
We announced at our May meeting that we would be having a picnic on July 8 but we are postponing it till hopefully a date in August. We miss everyone and appreciate your prayers for Dennis and Nancy
News flash. Dennis is going home with meds that have made his pain less. He will be followed up at cancer center with weekly chemo to shrink a large mass on his hip. A treatable cancer prayerfully into remission in time. Thank you for the overwhelming support and prayers of many.
Dear family, friends and all the members of the Body of Christ,
Tues, June 6 Dennis was scheduled to have back surgery but his blood level was low. Suddenly it was not just slightly anemic but the word we all hate - we run from and don't want to hear. But the answer is yes, Dennis has cancer - what the devil has attacked us with. Test and results getting worse and worse.
BUT God! Dennis had his first chemo and radiation treatment. All of the above are of this physical world we (Dennis & Nancy dwell in a spiritual world! God is good. He will carry us, walk with us, stand besides us and send His angels to protect us. We can walk and talk with Him and He will surround us with His love. He has shown us His love by giving us His Son to come to earth to die for our sins - sending the Holy Spirit to be with us.
Dennis and Nancy's journeys have merged and now God is putting them on this journey for now.
Our future is good - maybe not on this earth but in His glorious heaven. See ya

When you have a "regular" child you feel reasonably confident that class participation and decent study habits will result in good grades. These guys have close friends. They are invited to participate in social things such as dances and weekend gatherings. They form teams, audition organizations, and clubs.
But when you have a child with neurological differences, this is often not the case. Learning can take longer, both academically and socially. Despite their tremendous efforts, results are often a fraction of their peers and social acceptance is fleeting, setting them up for painful comparisons and bitter frustration. Instead of a fun and rewarding experience, school can become a breeding ground for depression and anxiety—and assign a battlefield at home. It's exhausting for both parents and kids.
💙This Monday starts the week of SPED (Special Education), AUTISM, Asperger, Dyslexia ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder) and any neurological difference, awareness.
To all the children struggling every day to succeed in a world that doesn't recognize their gifts and talents, ✨ and for those who are walking alongside them, please let this be a loving reminder to be kind and accepting of ALL people.
Children who learn differently are not weird. They are simply talented in ways our society doesn't appreciate enough. Yet they want what everyone else wants: To be accepted!!
🧩💙🧩
If you so choose, please COPY AND PASTE this in honor of all the children who, like so many, are considered "different." Our world would be so much less beautiful without them and so much easier with your empathy..
❤️🧡💛💚💙💜🤍🤎🖤for the wonderful children who make HUGE efforts every single day of their lives.
SUMMER GET AWAY REGISTRATION IS LIVE FOR ALL LOCATIONS!
Deadlines are coming fast! We can't wait to see YOU!

The poem that resonated with over 5 million folks ❤️
When He Outgrew Cute.
When he outgrew cute
The looks changed from compassion to concerned
Towards him
And towards those who supported him.
And sometimes disgust
Overshadowed concern
As he stubbornly clung to his ways.
When he outgrew cute
The calls increased
Calls desperate for help
Desperate for summer options for a fifteen-year-old in briefs
Desperate for respite
Desperate for adaptive equipment
Desperate for anything that would assist a non-verbal child
Or anyone
And the voices were silent
Or they whispered –
Sorry.
Sorry.
Sorry.
When he outgrew cute
His movements were no longer celebrated
But instead feared
Violent head banging
Aggressive pulling
Dangerous optimism
With the strength of a man
And not that of a child.
When he outgrew cute
The damage began
Damage to walls
Damage to others
And damage to himself
And this damage
Wreaked havoc on more than just objects
It wreaked havoc on psyches as well.
When he outgrew cute
The walls caved in
And the house became a tomb
And the isolation suffocated those within
As they desperately yearned to belong
To something
Somewhere.
When he outgrew cute
Milestones were no longer encouraged
And his future grew dim
And symptoms of PTSD set in
For those who loved him
And had been rattled by his screams for years.
When he outgrew cute
Mood altering drugs were doled out like candy
One option after another
For him
And also –
Suggested for his caregivers.
Drugs to dull the pain
Drugs to pacify
Drugs to silence the demons.
When he outgrew cute
She outgrew herself
As every ounce of strength was poured into him
And she got lost in the daily grind
Lost in the sleepless nights
And invisible behind the never-ending tasks.
When he outgrew cute
She outgrew silence
And she raised her voice
To join the cacophony for change
And her battle cry rose –
A better tomorrow!
For him
And for those who loved him.
Because when he outgrew cute
He outgrew society
And that’s simply not an option.
For anyone.
Anymore.
When he outgrew cute
She found the strength to move forward
To move toward advocacy
And move toward hope.
She found the strength
To keep going
And keep growing
And she found the strength
To just keep livin

Most church leaders would agree that they want their congregation to mirror the demographics of their community. If 20% of your community is impacted by disability is that reflected in your church? If not, what needs to change to make it so? READ MORE at https://www.grnewsletters.com/archive/monthlyenewsletter/Most-church-leaders-would-agree-1119228602.html
Fun Day was great fun!
But the LORD said unto Samuel, Look not on his countenance, or on the height of his stature; because I have refused him: for the LORD seeth not as man seeth; for man looketh on the outward appearance, but the LORD looketh on the heart.

Special Needs ministry is more than compassion. It's more than a buddy system. It's more than fidget toys. It's more than fancy lights and special chairs. Special needs ministry is coming alongside the families impacted by disabilities.
Making the Gospel accessible goes beyond the walls of the church and beyond the person with a disability. Let's be sure to support families in every possible way.
