Have you accessed an Eating Disorder Medicare Plan?
A new report has shown that the Medicare Benefits Schedule (MBS) Items for Eating Disorders have made an improvement in accessing treatment, but there are still barriers, with only 1 in 5 people with eating disorders accessing a Plan from their GP.
So, what could be done to improve this? It was recommended that the Government should:
➡️ Reduce cost-related barriers in accessing treatment, such as increasing bulk-billing and use of Telehealth ️
➡️Change the eligibility criteria to be more inclusive
➡️Improve support for carers ️
➡️Increase the number of practitioners available to treat eating disorders and improve awareness of eating disorders and the Medicare Items among healthcare professionals.
