Help if you're a student with a learning difficulty, health problem or disability.

Disabled Students’ Allowance (DSA) is support to cover the study-related costs you have because of a mental health problem, long term illness or any other disability, such as TS. This can be on its own or in addition to any student finance you get.

The type of support and how much you get depends on your individual needs - not your household income.

You do not need to pay back DSA.

For more information about what DSA can pay for and how to apply, please click this link.

We need your help!

Last year, we had so many brilliant buildings turn their landmarks green to mark day on the 7th June and we would LOVE even more buildings to get involved this year!

Last year we had so many council buildings, bridges, monuments and more, including St.Michael's Mount and the Eden Project - our ask to you is to contact your local council to ask if they can get involved for 2023!

With awareness brings acceptance.

Whether you are at high school, college or university, you may be taking your exams soon and be starting to think about how to arrange your time around revision.

This is a tough task for anyone but with the added pressure of having Tourette Syndrome, this can be an almost impossible task at times.

We've put together some helpful information in our latest factsheet, here: https://buff.ly/3oAciUY

We are excited to share the results of the UK-wide double-blind sham-controlled clinical trial of the Neupulse device for suppressing tics in Tourette syndrome.

The trial was run by the University of Nottingham conducted between 18th March 2022 and 5th of March 2023, sponsored by Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust

The aim of the trial was to evaluate the effectiveness of the Neupulse device in reducing the severity and frequency of tics in individuals with Tourette Syndrome. A total of 121 participants took part in the study and went on to receive either active or sham stimulation for 10min a day for 4 weeks.

The results of the study revealed that people who received active stimulation experienced a significant reduction in the severity and frequency of their tics. On average, they saw a reduction in tic frequency of more than 25% while they received stimulation

After using the device for 4 weeks, people who received active stimulation experienced a reduction in their tic severity of more than 35%. In total, 59% of the people who received active stimulation experienced a reduction in tic severity of at least 25% compared to baseline.

These positive results will help start of the development of a commercial medical device, that will run for the next 18 months. Hoping to obtain regulatory approval for a commercial device by 2025 and have a device available by 2026.

You can read the whole pre-print paper with the results of the clinical trial here: https://medrxiv.org/cgi/content/short/2023.03.06.23286799v1

Today, Lewis Capaldi trialled the wearable wrist Neupulse stimulation device to see if it would help him manage his tics. The great news is he found it relaxing and very effective in reducing his head and shoulder tics.

What are vocal tics?
Vocal tics involve the vocal cords, sounds and words. Simple vocal tics involve sounds made by moving air through the nose or mouth, including whistling, throat clearing, sniffing, coughing, tongue clicking, grunting, and animal sounds. Complex vocal tics include uttering words or phrases out of context, saying socially unacceptable words (coprolalia), and repeating a sound, word or phrase (echolalia).
